Mexican LCCs: Aviacsa's More of a Veteran, But Still in Trouble

Like several other Mexican low cost carriers, Aviacsa has been looking a little shaky lately. But the carrier, which has a history back to 1990--longer than most other budget lines--avoided the threat of having their operations suspended recently for not paying government airspace royalties. That's something that Avolar and Aerocalifornia didn't quite manage.
Aviacsa still flies to more than a dozen Mexican destinations plus Las Vegas, but that's after cutting out a few due to rising fuel costs. They say they're just trying to consolidate their routes and trying to "be more productive"--in other words, "Don't worry gang, we're still flying."
Aviacsa certainly seems one of the sturdier Mexican LCCs but we wouldn't be booking an expensive flight for any time too far into the future.
Related Stories:
· OMA Passenger Traffic Decreases 4.4% [CNN]
· Mexico Airlines Cancel Routes [Reuters]
· Mexican LCCs: Ups and Downs of Avolar [Jaunted]

Adventures of Link: Sorry, Mexico

The age of the low cost carrier may be over--at least in Mexico. The Atlanta Journal Constitution says prices are already up 25 percent this year, and increases show no sign of stopping.
Along with rising fares, international and Mexican carriers are grounding planes and trimming capacity. Meanwhile bus companies are putting their fares on sale--a move they can afford thanks to government gasoline subsidies.
Today, we offer you some links to airlines across the border. Don't forget to book with a credit card just in case!
Related Stories:
· Cheap Air Travel in Peril in Mexico [AJC, via]
· Aviacsa [Official Site]
· Avolar [Official Site]
· VivaAerobus [Official Site]
· Volaris [Official Site]
