Guy Crosses US-Canada Border with an iPad in Place of a Passport

Whoa whoa whoa. We're not even a week into the new year and already stories of stupid travel happenings are hitting the news. The latest? Oh, just that some guy from Montreal managed to cross over the US border by producing not his physical passport, but a scan of his passport displayed on his iPad.
Look, we love iPads as much as (maybe more so?) the next tech-happy traveler, but we draw the line at two things: using the iPad as your main camera and using it as your primary form of ID. Martin Reisch violated the latter when he and his friends drove into Vermont and the border patrol okay-ed him.
Here's what went down, according to the CBC:

This week, our friends "down under" at Jetstar actually came through and rolled out new in-flight entertainment options. The LCC is now offering passengers in all cabins the option to rent an iPad on flights from Oz to New Zealand, plus other short-haul internationals. Eventual roll-out across the whole domestic network is in the works.
This is the first time iPads have been offered in the short-haul economy cabin and, frankly, this really makes us super giddy. The rental cost of $10-15 AUD (depending on flight duration) isn't too bad either, considering the entertainment options.
Crystal Cruises is a Mac, Not a PC

It's not secret that cruise ships in these modern times are equipped with internet—even with WiFi in staterooms. What is a secret are the exorbitant rates you'll be paying to access it, as the network is satellite-based and designed to even reach you in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
We've touched on at-sea WiFi before, but things have changed in a year and a half since. Now the focus is not so much on the high rates as the unexpected high quality of the ship's tech setup and computer terminals. If you didn't bring your laptop or iPad to sea, chances are you'll be just as surrounded by comfort and luxury in the computer lounge as you'd be in your room.
We hopped onboard the Crystal Cruises ship Crystal Symphony for some snooping earlier this week while the ship was at dock in New York City, and were struck by the fact that this ship is not a PC; it's a Mac!

Here's how that went:

Japanese magazine Spa! reported that back in July 2010, Apple CEO Steve Jobs attempted to board his private plane at Kansai International Airport in Osaka for a return to the United States after a family vacation in Kyoto.
Will the Advances of the iPhone 4S Make Any Difference to Travelers?

Alright. You're disappointed that there's no iPhone 5 announced today. We are totally bummed as well, but still there's a few things to celebrate with the iPhone 4S, and more than a few things that'll prove useful for frequent travelers who rely on their iPhones. Let's take a look at the new, travel-friendly features:
· The Camera. The 4S will boast an 8 megapixel camera. In case you're wondering how that compares to previous models, the 3GS has 3.2 megapixels and the iPhone 4 only 5 megapixels. The 4S represents a huge gain in megapixels and, therefore, image quality. This should do wonder for your Instagram shots, the snaps you email right away from the road, and anything on the fly. Pair this with the 4S' faster shutter, face detection technology, auto-white balance and f2.4 lens to let in more light and you've got a great camera in your palm.
· The Video. Sure, the iPhone 4 shoots HD video, but the iPhone 4S will shoot true 1080p HD video with image stabilization and temporal noise reduction. You can forget the Flip cameras and ignore the film function on crappy point-and-shoots for this. Shoot video postcards to instantly email home, capture panoramas in HD, or record and entire mini video record of your trip.
