Can't Get a Ride? Other Ways to Reach Six International Airports

So last year's introduction of the Skytrain, which shuttles folks up and down the length of Concourse D, helped. The Skytrain isn't the only MIA monorail in town, though. Work is plowing ahead on the brand new MIA Mover, an automated people mover that will run from MIA to the new—and awesomely named—Miami Intermodal Center.

New York: 'Take the Train to the Plane,' Says the New York City of the 1980s

Ever wondered what existed to get travelers New York-JFK Airport before the AirTrain opened? Well, this. It's something called the JFK Express, essentially an express subway line that ran from 1978 to 1990, until it was eliminated due to low ridership.
It's crazy to think that the AirTrain didn't open until 2003, leaving a 13-year gap between the JFK Express and another option. During this time, passengers opting for public transportation took the regular subway out to the Howard Beach stop and boarded a bus to finish the trip to JFK. Even crazier is the thought the people interviewed in the "Train to the Plane" commercial above once lived in New York City. There's so much history in this city that sometimes it boggles the brain. Of course, we've got nothing on European or Asian cities in terms of urban history.
Oh, the delights of YouTube.

London: Trip to London Coming Up? Take 50% Off Heathrow Express Train Tickets

While we're content to hop the Tube for a long ride with the proletariat, other travelers prefer a more direct route—The Heathrow Express train, and luckily they're running a deal for 50% off through September 5.
The Heathrow Express goes direct from the airport to London's Paddington Station in twenty minutes, complete with free onboard WiFi and TV news. Typically the round-trip price for an adult on the Heathrow Express is $49, but if you book and travel in groups of two or more for round-trip tickets, that price comes down to $24.50 roundtrip for one adult in Express Class (aka not First Class). The first half of your trip must happen by September 5, but it's an excellent small way of saving money in a notoriously pricey town. Book it online here.

You've got to get yourself to the airport transportation and take that first! Some airports have Airtrains connections between the subway and the terminals, and fewer have direct subway train stations, but London's Gatwick Airport has a direct train and we love it.
The train between London's Victoria Station and Gatwick Airport is appropriately called the Gatwick Express, and it provides space and comfort for the harried travelers arriving from or departing to flights from the airport.
Paris: SuperShuttle Will Now Pick You Up At Paris' Three Airports

That's right—Supershuttle, the shared bus airport transport company, has just opened their first international location, giving you some options for getting between Paris' center and its Charles de Gaulle, Orly and Beauvais airports.
Today in the Sky fills us in that average per-person rates for the trip between Paris and CDG is 27 Euros ($40) and reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
We actually frequently opt to take SuperShuttles to the airport, but warn that being picked up from the airport by them is very iffy and not once have we had a successful pick-up. Once, after a 13+hour flight back from Hong Kong, we spent an hour and a half on the curb at JFK while we waited for our SuperShuttle ride, despite having made reservations online. Oh, there were plenty SuperShuttle drivers there hanging out, it's just none of them had our name on their roster.
