Miami: Five New Places to Eat and Drink (Respectably!) at Miami International Airport

Veteran Miami International Airport flyers already know that pit stops at La Caretta and Cafe Versailles are worth skipping an airline meal for. Or, if you prefer <strike>crappy</strike> more standard airport fare, you can head to the slew of beer-themed bars and outposts of Shula's Bar and Grill and Bongo's—the Cuban cafe whose slogan is "Where The Rhythm's Gonna Get You."
But, thanks to MIA's $2.94 billion North Terminal overhaul, there are some surprising new places to eat and drink while transiting through the gateway to South America. Here are five of the latest additions to Concourse D, home of American Airlines.
(Even if we'll still be buying our Cubanos at La Caretta, and our morning coffees at Versailles. Old habits and all that.)

Chicago: Rosie O'Donnell Flips Out at O'Hare, Get Pwned

Her wrath knows no bounds when she's really set on something, the latest something being underage drinking at airport bars, even when the drinkers are perfectly legal.
According to Chicagoist, Rosie chewed out a pair of girls at one of O'Hare Airport's many watering holes, after she witnessed them ordering beers. They were not carded, and this apparently set off O'Donnell, at least until the girls explained their ages: 24 and 27.
Hey, Rosie: you should be worried about catching flight crew bellying up to an airport bar, not fellow travelers. Geez, we feel sorry for the bartender now that this is ranking in the tabloids like some kind of minor national incident. Wait—what's Rosie doing at ORD anyway? Doesn't she notoriously prefer traveling by private jet? Five airports around the world are betting otherwise, however, as they've actually taken airplanes—ones which can no longer buzz up into the air—and installed them as bars, all in the name of getting you buzzed instead.
Now, without further ado, here are the Five Airport-area Bars Made From Actual Airplanes:

Zurich: Inside Runway 34, a Vintage Airplane-Turned-Restaurant at Zurich Airport

In 2005, an old Soviet Ilyushin IL-14 airplane made its final flight (pic here), landing for good at Zurich International Airport. Its fate was to become a very unique attraction, the centerpiece of a new restaurant just outside the airport at the very end of runway 34. In fact, the restaurant and bar is called Runway 34, and it's something of a special secret for international flight crew, aviation geeks and those who just enjoy seeing the quirky sights.
During a recent jaunt off to Switzerland, we made it a point to visit Runway 34, even if it involved a trek through deserted streets at 10pm the night before our early morning flight. There was an airplane trapped in a restaurant! Duh, we wanted to go and at least have drinks on its wing. Unfortunately our cutting it short cost us, and only the bar was open. Perfect, actually; a waiter took a shining to us and gave us a guided tour of the whole place, letting us run around and go camera-crazy.
And we have video...

The Five Best Airport Bars for Toasting St. Patrick's Day

Being stuck at the airport on St. Patrick’s Day is definitely not the best way to celebrate the holiday. However, we’re pretty sure you can find some fellow travelers eager to toast to the Irish this week at airports across the globe. So pull up a stool, belly up to the bar, and order a pint of Guinness at one of our picks for the five best airport bars to celebrate all things green::
· Corcoran's Irish Pub at LAS
Lady Luck meets the Luck o’ The Irish at Las Vegas-McCarran Airport in Las Vegas. You’ll need to take a break from the terminal slot machines—like you have any money leftover anyway—to check out Corcoran's Irish Pub between gates C1 and C2. Expect the usual not-that-authentic recreation of a neighborhood pub, but that’s exactly what we want to experience this Thursday. Just take it easy with those Irish Car Bomb shots, as you don’t want to be turned away before boarding.
· Fionn MacCool’s at YYZ
Canada’s largest airport Toronto-Pearson will be celebrating the season this week with their version of an Irish Pub right within Terminal 3. The place has only been around for a year or so, but they promise to fill you up with both Irish inspired food and beverage. Get something to go along with your liquid lunch like a Guinness Steak and Mushroom Crock, but we’re sure they have a burger if you’re not that into the Irish food offerings this week.

At least, that's what Jay-Z hopes to accomplish by opening a number of U.S. airport sport bars. The hip-hop impresario/fashion designer/Beyonce husband/new author announced that he'll bring incarnations of his upscale 40/40 Clubs—which already reside in NYC, Atlantic City and Las Vegas—to several as-yet-unnamed airports. Looks like Chili's is gonna have some competition.
It seems risky, given reports of some financial problems a couple of the clubs have had. But Hova isn't deterred; in fact, in 2011, more 40/40 Clubs will open in non-airport locations, including Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, Tokyo and Macau.
