Get Comfy En Route Down Under With Qantas' Biz Class Sale

Aussie airline Qantas wants to make this financially easier for us for a while, with a 40% off sale on business class seats from Los Angeles, San Francisco or New York down to Sydney or Brisbane.
Business class is certainly a nicer way to travel on those long, long-haul flights, although the funny thing is that Qantas claims to have invented business class back in 1979; if you prefer to believe Wikipedia, it was actually British Caledonian in 1978.

The cheapest flights get as low as 19 Ringgit ($5.50) but they're mostly internal Malaysian flights; to get from Kuala Lumpur to further afield, there are deals like KL to pretty much anywhere in Indonesia or Thailand for 59 Ringgit ($17) and KL to Australian destinations for 199 Ringgit ($58).
Southwest's Airfare Sale Will Fly You To Fall Foliage For $59

Oh autumn leaves, how we love thee. We love thee so much that the simple fact that Southwest Airlines used fall colors to illustrate their airfare sale made us perk up. A $59 one-way flight also helps get our attention too, and SWA is offering such deals on routes like Phoenix to San Diego and Chicago to Columbus, OH.
To score the low prices, you must book by October 13 and travel by February 11, 2010. There are black-out days however: Fridays and Sundays, so if you're willing to fly on a Saturday and return later during the week, then you are in a perfect position to reap the benefits of the fall sale.
In particular, we've got our eyes on their two direct routes from New York-LaGuardia to Baltimore for $59 and Chicago for $109. It's still a fresh route and Southwest is still excited about it, and the enthusiasm is rubbing off on us. Time to dream about fall foliage in Maryland and Illinois...
Related Stories:
· Southwest Special Offers [Southwest]
· Southwest Airlines Coverage [Jaunted]

Airlines Slashing Prices Deeper Than Usual For Fall

Leisure travel is down and business travel, usually the airlines' bread and butter, is way down. The industry is responding the way industries respond to this sort of thing:

Airlines are cutting fares deeper than usual this fall in an effort to fill seats. American and Southwest both launched fare sales this week, and United is running several sales, too. While it's common for airlines to use discounts to fill planes during the slower fall travel months, the discounts this year are deeper and more widely available than last fall, said FareCompare.com CEO Rick Seaney.

The bargains aren't as enticing as what the airlines were doing right after the recession hit, but they're still objectively deep cuts and much better than anything you could have gotten last year.

Pay Per Mile With Southwest's 48-Hour Sale

Fall travel just happens to be out favorite kind of travel; it's not too hot, you still don't have to pack a bulky coat, tourist spots aren't as packed, and the colors or autumn leaves are just awesome. Southwest Airlines seems to understand our love for fall, and so they've put all of their flights between September 9 and November 18 on sale for 48 hours only.
Book by end of day on July 8, and snag Southwest seats based on how far you fly; it's a bit like paying per plate at an all-you-can-eat buffet. Flights of 400 miles of less, like BWI to New York-LGA, are $30 each way; flights between 401 to 750 miles, like Las Vegas to Oakland, are $60 each way; and flights more than 750 miles, like Chicago-MDW to Houston-Hobby, are $90 each way.
Taking advantage of their shiny brand new route between New York and Chicago, we double checked to make sure these sale fares stand, and indeed we found roundtrips in late September for $60 each way, with fees coming to a total of $141.20. Just watch out for those Fridays and Sundays; the sale fares exclude these days because hey, an airline has to make a living somehow.
Related Stories:
· Every city on sale for 48 hours only [Southwest Airlines]
· Southwest Airlines Coverage [Jaunted]

So Over Staycationing; We Want Delta's Sale Fares To The French Riviera

If you've been doing that horrible thing of "staycationing" this summer, then getting cabin fever is absolutely inevitable; we recommend planning a real autumn trip to take the edge off. After all, they say the recession is beginning to end, right?
Airfares too are starting to go up, although this isn't a great thing for travelers hoping to head to Europe after delaying such trips for so long. If places like Nice on the French Riviera and Madrid make you fill with delicious wanderlust and the urge to break out a caftan and your sunglasses, then we recommend checking out Delta's fall sale fares to Europe.
Even though they're priced from $398 without taxes and fees for travel between mid-August and late October, being flexible with dates can help shimmy that price down.
