How to Travel Around the World By Airplane

If the usual travel destinations have gotten a little boring, it might be time to consider something a little more adventurous. Traveling around the world is slightly intimidating, but doing it by airplane isn’t too tricky. There are plenty of options for flying around the globe, and there’s three main ways to get you to and from your home with time for pit stops on most continents. The best part is things are somewhat flexible, so feel free to skip over countries you’ve seen before or ones you’d rather avoid. Here’s a rundown of where to go to get things done.

· Star Alliance
Star Alliance is ready, willing, and able to take you to your dream destinations, and they can do it with help from lots of airlines including United Airlines, ANA, and Singapore Airlines. Tickets are priced depending on total mileage planned for your trip, and you can choose from 29,000, 34,000, or 39,000 miles. For those that enjoy the pain and suffering of a seat in the back of the plane, there’s a special economy option available with a 26,000 mileage allowance—in case you only have a week to finish exploring.

Air France Cuts French Overseas Territories Some Slack with Cheaper Fares

Looks like Air France wants to level the flying field and make it easier to travel to France's overseas territories and, in turn, help those areas get some extra tourism Euros.

The airline recently signed a charter with the government's department that handles equality issues in the French overseas territories that would make flights between metropolitan France and Noumea, New Caledonia, and Papeete, French Polynesia, cheaper. Air France is offering 15 percent of its overall capacity in economy class at the lowest available fare on the date of travel, excluding special offers during peak travel times.

When we haven't traveled in a few weeks, we get serious ants in our pants and we begin to consider anywhere in the world so long as there's some special or deal. Finding ourselves currently in such a mood, we jumped at @airfarewatchdog's tweet that flights to Cairo, Egypt on Russian airline Aeroflot in February were showing up under $500, including all taxes and fees.

Indeed we found the promised fares right on Aeroflot's website, with departures at a "promotional fare" of $67 each way to Cairo, switching planes in Moscow. Add on taxes and fees, and the total comes to a meager $501.70. We can't even get from NYC to London for that, but Egypt? Okay!

Air Asia Just Put A Million Free Tickets Up For Grabs

Remember when Ryanair threw a hissy fit about bad coverage and "retaliated" by giving away over a million free seats? This new deal from low-cost carrier AsiaAir has going is just like that, rounded down a few thousand seats. Except this the deal opens up a huge vacation window next summer. And it covers over 70 destinations in China, India, Taiwan, Indonesia and Thailand. And you don't have to fly on Ryanair. All things that we are very, very in favor of, but let's hear what they have to say:

'With no fuel surcharge and administration fee, this deal offers fantastic value to our guests'...she said to complement the free flights, AirAsia’s one-stop travel portal was also offering deals and packages including “free rooms” in more than 180 Asia-Pacific hotels online.

Sydney: V Australia Can't Wait To Get You Down Under With An Aussie Rock Band

The always spunky Richard Branson and his Virgin team are no slouches at putting together clever promotions, and this time his Aussie long-haul airline V Australia has got a smart one going called Jet with JET.

One jet, of course, is the plane that V Australia is going to fly you in from Los Angeles to Sydney. The all-capitals JET is the great Aussie rock band that will be on the plane with you, and then will perform at the Homebake Music Festival once they back to Oz.

Pay Per Mile With Southwest's 48-Hour Sale

Fall travel just happens to be out favorite kind of travel; it's not too hot, you still don't have to pack a bulky coat, tourist spots aren't as packed, and the colors or autumn leaves are just awesome. Southwest Airlines seems to understand our love for fall, and so they've put all of their flights between September 9 and November 18 on sale for 48 hours only.

Book by end of day on July 8, and snag Southwest seats based on how far you fly; it's a bit like paying per plate at an all-you-can-eat buffet. Flights of 400 miles of less, like BWI to New York-LGA, are $30 each way; flights between 401 to 750 miles, like Las Vegas to Oakland, are $60 each way; and flights more than 750 miles, like Chicago-MDW to Houston-Hobby, are $90 each way.

Taking advantage of their shiny brand new route between New York and Chicago, we double checked to make sure these sale fares stand, and indeed we found roundtrips in late September for $60 each way, with fees coming to a total of $141.20. Just watch out for those Fridays and Sundays; the sale fares exclude these days because hey, an airline has to make a living somehow.

JetBlue's Latest Sale Is All About The Beach

In-flight entertainment pioneers JetBlue are offering up a great sale for watching TV in the sky and getting out of town to somewhere warm, breezy, and sandy. The airline’s Life’s A Beach Sale promises to whisk you away to sunny destinations across the Caribbean and Mexico. Most deals are available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and you need to hurry up, since you have to have things booked by tomorrow.

The very best deals are from Ft. Lauderdale, where you can jet to Cancun or Nassau for only $29 each way. If you prefer the Dominican Republic, that’s a great deal too, starting at only $59 for each leg of your trip.
