Five Favorite Airline In-Flight Snacks and Where to Buy Them

Free airline snacks are far and few between but there are some so good, we don’t want to wait for another flight to taste them again. Luckily, we’ve done some sleuthing and found our favorites in grocery stores and specialty shops around the country. Found your favorite in-flight goodie on the road? Let us know!

· Constant Craving: Biscoff Cookies
Delta Airlines has raised the hackles of many a customer, but you’ll find few willing to complain about the sweet, crunchy, cinnamony goodness of the Biscoff cookie. We were thrilled to find them in our cookie aisle, but even better? The new Biscoff spread made up of 50% of Biscoff cookies. There’s even a new crunchy version with chunks of cookies in it (swoon!). We’ve tossed aside our peanut butter and Nutella with scorn and slathered this goodness on everything from toast to English muffins. Yeah, it’s a problem.
Where to Get ‘Em: The cookies have been spotted in Walgreens, Ralphs, and even Walmart, but the spread can be found in the peanut butter section in stores like Shop Rite, Kroger, Hannaford, Wegmans, and even on Amazon.com.

As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Alaska Airlines:
This week’s big new route winner—at least to us—has to be the new options from Alaska Airlines. They’re sending their eskimo-tailed planes to two new spots beginning sooner than later. Up first is a nonstop option between Seattle and Kansas City starting up in March of 2012.
Next is a new option between San Jose and Palm Springs, but this is just a seasonal thing. This flight runs throughout the winter before taking the summer off beginning around June. Alaska is ready to celebrate the new options, so they’ve got both routes on sale for between $89 and $99 each way depending on when you’re headed.
· Porter Airlines:
Residents of the Big Apple aren’t too far from some great skiing this season, as Porter Airlines is bringing a new nonstop option between Newark-Liberty and Mont Tremblant, Quebec beginning right before Christmas. Sure it’s not Aspen or Park City, but it’s definitely a lot closer and in the same time zone. The flights begin on December 22 and continue to do their thing through the April 5. Expect plenty of fun and service both on the ground and in the air, as Porter Airlines is all about customer service—including free booze!

There’s been a couple flying around here and there, and now the latest is looking to link San Francisco with Honolulu. Those looking to escape the Bay Area for a slice of paradise can now do so in comfort—along with new airplane smell—as Hawaiian Airlines starts service with the new planes between the two cities on November 6. If you make it out to the islands this fall, be sure to have a Mai Tai for us.
· Virgin Atlantic:
‘Tis the season for seasonal routes to start doing their thing, and recently Virgin Atlantic once again started an option between London and Chicago. The flights run between May and October, so there’s plenty of time to hop across the pond for a pint and some fish and chips. There’s some decent competition on this route, as British Airways, United, and American Airlines are also options. That means some savings for passengers, as we were able to price out some seats for just under $1,000 per person—including taxes and fees—for travel at the beginning of June.

United and Continental—although for now it’s technically Continental—are teaming up to launch nonstop service between Newark and Stuttgart. We’re thinking tickets should be on sale soon—if not already—as the new flights start up on June 9. Just beware that the flights will be operated by Boeing 757s, which means only one aisle of airplane space to stretch your legs during the overnight flight! The new flights will run back and forth seven days a week.
· Spirit Airlines:
You know how we feel about Spirit Airlines, but we still have to let you know what they’re up to. After all, even with all the fees slapped onto some of their tickets, they still can be a great deal. So the new option is between Chicago-O’Hare and Atlantic City. Sure, it’s not exactly Las Vegas, but when you need some gambling and a dose of Jersey—it’ll do.
