Bikini Travel: Sienna Miller Taunts The Paparazzi

Infidelity? What infidelity? Sienna Miller dared photographers to take a closer look as she vacationed with her mother and sister on a yacht off Ibiza this weekend.
The tiny swimsuits of a Mediterranean getaway were paired with cigarettes and glasses of rosé instead of Balthazar Getty, the actor whom Miller has been accused of pulling away from his wife (they are now separated). And, unfortunately for the European tabloids, Miller kept her bikini top on this trip. And they say stars can't learn from their mistakes!
Related Stories:
· Sienna Miller Prefers Hard Suitcases (Carried By Someone Else) [Jaunted]
· Sienna Miller Hates Pittsburgh [Jaunted]
· Celeb Travel coverage [Jaunted]

Despite the efforts of 11 emergency vehicles, on the scene reports are putting the death toll at around 150--though only 45 fatalities have been confirmed as of now.
It's the worst fatal airplane crash in Spain since a 1985 incident in Bilbao.

One of our favorite bespectacled directors (Woody Allen) is back to the big screen this week with "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," a sensual romantic comedy about two girls on holiday in Spain for the summer who fall for the same guy (Javier Bardem).
The girls (Rebecca Hall and Scarlett Johansson) also don't realize that their love interest's ex-wife (Penelope Cruz) who, oh yeah, tried to stab him, isn't completely out of the picture yet. And yes, there is one particularly racy scene involving Scarlett, Penelope and Javier, but we hear it's been talked up quite a bit more than it deserves.
"Vicky Cristina Barcelona" was not only shot in, but is a literal tribute to, Barcelona.
Architecture Travel: Reactivate!! Instant Urbanism

Nicknamed "instant urbanism," the projects of REACTIVATE!! turn transient areas permanent.
One interesting stand out is Popelka Poduschka's installation at the inner courtyards of the Museumsquartier in Vienna. In the summertime, 116 colorful over sized geometric furniture elements are scattered throughout the area, creating a playground that provides places to do some work or soak up the sun. In the winter, they are all piled together like building blocks, making an indoor gathering area where refreshments are served and DJs spin.
Related Stories:
· Espai d' Art Contemporani de Castelló [Official Site]
· Instant Urbanism [Worldchanging]
· Architecture coverage [Jaunted]

The Taming of the Beasts in Galicia

The cowboys of northern Spain put on a spectacular show every summer, rounding up herds of wild horses and taming them in a public spectacle known as La Rapa das Bestas. The tradition, which is thought to date back to the Bronze Age, involves bringing the beautiful beasts into a corral known as a curro where a handful of brave agarradores - both male and female - grapple with them until they are branded and shorn of their manes. Then the horses are fed and groomed while a wild festival unfolds across the village.
Participants and spectators say that the horses aren't mistreated in the process, but I can't say I'd appreciate being tossed to the ground and burned by a hot iron. That said, the horses do get to trade in a hardscrabble, hoof-to-mouth existence in the wild plains of Galicia for a life of unlimited food and relative ease, so maybe they are better off for the trouble. The events occur throughout July and August in Galician villages such as Sabucedo, so if you're in the area, ask the locals when the next herd of wild horses will be passing through.
Related Stories:
· Wrestling With Wild Horses [Reuters]
· Sites of the Main Rapas [galinor.es]
· Horse Coverage [Jaunted]

Hurting Culture Travel: "Guernica" Needs a Facelift

To stand before Picasso's magnificent "Guernica" canvas is to be bowled over by the artist's depiction of the horrors of war. But curators at the Reina Sofia Museum, where the painting has made his home since 1992, say the major work needs some major work done--and might even be too fragile for restoration.
A particular problem according to experts is that the painting is too fragile to move, even to its namesake city, while it used to join exhibitions as far away as Chicago and Brazil. It was defaced in 1974 by an antiwar protester who added the words "Kill Lies All" to the painting, though that has since been removed.
Despite damage sustained, the painting is protected not by alarmed glass but just by a rail and guards. You're not supposed to take pictures, though--hence this stealth shot.
Related Stories:
· "Guernica" Needs Special Care, Say Curators [AP]
· Madrid Travel coverage [Jaunted]
