Life Size Matrioshka Dolls on Display

Touring England and obsessed with war relics? Then there's something new for you, with the National Cold War Exhibition having opened earlier this month at the Royal Air Force Museum. It's the first major permanent exhibition to focus purely on the Cold War and features three V-Bombers as part of a collection of 17 aircraft, a section of the Berlin Wall and life size matrioshka dolls!

Nuclear weapons feature highly (now you could hide some of them in the matrioshka dolls: perhaps that's why they're there) and the building is pretty neat, too: divided into two halves and separated by an Iron Curtain. Ex-PM Maggie Thatcher (who had a pretty big influence on the Cold War herself) turned up at the opening which was presided over by Princess Anne. Although we think it's a pity they just didn't make talking matrioshka dolls to do the job.

Related Stories:
· Thatcher at Museum Opening [Express & Star]
· War Relics in From the Cold [Guardian]
