Wouldn't you like a marsupial of your very own? Australia's Koala Hospital is offering adoptions this year of one of the animals they fix and release into the wild. All the koalas have names, and with your fee you'll get a little plush animal to take home instead of the real thing.
Not a eucalyptus fan? Choose from animals as diverse as polar bears and blue-footed boobies through the World Wildlife Fund's Adopt an Animal program. As with the Koala Hospital, you won't be allowed to visit your charges (and the adoption is largely symbolic anyway) but you'll know the cuddly animals love you.
