We could watch that recut trailer to Shining probably about 100 more times before we got tired of it. And all those feel-good feelings made us want to check out the real-life hotel whose exteriors were used for Stanley Kubrick's chilly flick.

The Timberline Hotel, on Mt. Hood, was built in the 1930s as a WPA project. Keep in mind that it and even some nearby ski slopes are open year-round: no need for a caretaking family to be there all alone in the winter. Something just slightly scary: the mixed reviews on Tripadvisor make it sound as if the Lodge and some of its furnishings are way due for an update. Rooms start at $100.

Tomorrow, we'll look at The Stanley Hotel, in Estes Park, which inspired Stephen King to write The Shining in the first place.
