Young Hollywood is basking in Maui's sun (and accolades) this week. Yesterday, Andrew Garfield, Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund came out to support Megan Fox as she received the Iris Award at Maui Film Festival's Celestial Cinema.
Andrew and Olivia will receive their own honors at the festival this week when they presented with the Shining Star Awards, while Garrett will receive the Rising Star Award.]]>
Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston share the big screen for the first time this weekend in Just Go With It, about a guy who pretends he is married to meet woman and then recruits a co-worker to pretend she's his ex-wife after he meets a woman he actually cares about.
If you're wondering what convinced Jennifer Aniston to star in one of Adam Sandler's movies, there is an explanation: they filmed the movie for seven weeks in Maui. The cast and crew enjoyed all of the perks of the Grand Wailea (like spa services, on-site golf, luxury suites and beach access) while filming (and living) at the resort last spring. ]]>
Today, Clint Eastwood's Hereafter opens nationwide and critics are already raving about the movie. But, rather than thinking about the film's focus, which is, well, death, we'd rather think about its amazing locations like Paris, London, San Francisco and especially, Maui.
The movie's griping opening sequence, in which a tsunami hits an island and wipes out a busy marketplace, was filmed on Front St in Lahaina, Maui. According to the movie's location manager, Lahaina was perfect for the scene because, "Front Street's proximity to the water and the architecture of its buildings help supply a look that will require much less transformation towards this goal than other locations which were under consideration." ]]>
The best part of being an A-list celebrity has to be the ability to choose your next movie based on its location. Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler have taken full advantage of their status in Hollywood and are currently filming Just Go With It in Maui.
The movie's primary filming location for the next six weeks will be the Grand Wailea Resort which is also where most of the crew is staying, though we hear Jen decided to stay down the street at the Four Seasons. The Grand Wailea, which is part of the Waldorf Astoria Hotels, is the tops in luxury. The resort is situated on 40 acres, with a private beach, spa, and even a camp for kids. Rates start at $369 per night. ]]>

Flying there is the hardest step to tying the knot. All you have to do is head to a marriage license agent with your soon-to-be spouse, show proof of age and plunk down $60. There isn't a waiting period and no blood tests are needed. You can save time by downloading a marriage license application here and having it filled out when you visit the agent. Just be sure to call the local agent to make an appointment so that you can get hitched on January 1 without any issue. ]]>
We've already expressed our repulsion at the baggage fees that airlines keep piling on passengers these days but we were appalled at this fee that we saw United Airlines leveraging on passengers at the Kahului Airport (OGG) in Maui, Hawaii yesterday.
The sign says,
$125 charge for checked bags over 50lbs.
Usually, we understand that overweight bags should be dinged for their heftiness but $125? That is just thievery. And according to United's website, oversized baggage costs $175. Ugh. Better consider shipping that luggage instead.

Dear Lindsay, We'd like to thank you for perusing our options for the Five Vacations to Heal Your Soul. Your decision to pick option #2, Maui, Hawaii, has been lauded throughout the office (currently made-up of one afternoon editor and a napping French bulldog.)
However, instead of going on a yoga retreat like we suggested it seems you have made friends with the male owner of several-area internet cafes. Ugh. But whatever gets you out of LA and out of stalking Samantha Ronson, we guess we'll be cool with.
