Professional football is right around the corner, but more importantly for some, college football has already arrived. Here’s the scoop on just one of the country’s best rivalries to help your sports travel planning.

The two schools aren’t big fans of each other to say the least, and being paired together in the Southeaster Conference has not improved things. Tennessee’s new coach has been running his mouth a lot, so the Gators are ready to bite back. The series is dead even, but the Gators have been more successful recently.

In 2006, the Florida Gators thumped OSU to become national champions. And despite losing a number of starters before this season, the Gators have a real possibility of going the distance again. In only three games this season, they've posted 167 points.

Under current head coach Urban Meyer, the Gators haven't lost at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainsville, a trend that should continue this year. Aptly-wrinkled, aging rocker Tom Petty headed back to his hometown of Gainsville, FL on Thursday to play a sold-out show at Univ. of Florida's O'Connell Center, and justified his status as a hometown legend.

First off, tickets to Petty's concert sold out in 10 minutes, and secondly, Gainesville Mayor Pegeen Hanrahan presented each band member of The Heartbreakers with a key to the city and proclaimed Sept. 21 as "Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Day."

Petty, who's lived in Malibu for years and now calls CA home, was unimpresed, noting that the key was "a lot nicer than the one we got in Chicago." At least Gainesville has that going for them.
