It's Summer Somewhere: Death Valley

If you're like us, you probably think of Death Valley as some ungodly hot wasteland that's about as inviting as Tatooine. But this time of year it's actually quite pleasant, with temps hovering around 60 degrees during the day. And while smart tourists hit up Death Valley National Park this time of year, you won't be crushed by too many RVs since the place is so vast.
The name of the game in winter is active travel, since you won't be broiling in triple digit heat. Hiking is huge because the park doesn't have official trail boundaries. Of course there are some marked paths, but if you feel like just setting off, that's cool too. (Just tell somebody where you're going!)
Golf, believe it or not, is also on tap. The Furnace Creek Inn inside the park has the world's lowest golf course at 214 feet below sea level. That also makes it one of the toughest courses around, so, if you're no Tiger, just hit up the resort's pool: It's a steamy 82 degrees year-round.
Related Stories:
· Death Valley National Park [Official Site]
· Furnace Creek Resort [Official Site]
· National Parks coverage [Jaunted]
· It's Summer Somewhere coverage [Jaunted]
