If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, we have many suggestions, but the only catch for this one is that you need to be able to get to Los Angeles—sorry, we’ll try to give you more warning next year. This weekend is the third annual Los Angeles Beer Festival at the Sony Studios in Culver City, so after one too many you can sneak onto a hot set and make your very own cameo appearance.

Like most beer festivals there are two sessions and both take place this Saturday, April 9th. The first—for the early birds—runs from noon until 3pm. After a couple hours to clean up and to sweep away the stragglers, the second session will begin at 5pm and wrap around 8pm. Obviously beer will be front and center of this year’s sudsy shindig, but there will also be live music and plenty of the area’s best food trucks. We're still trying to get used to the fact that Tron has gotten a big flashy Disney sequel, Tron: Legacy, due out in theaters on December 17 but it's clear that none of this would have happened without Tron Guy whose own electroluminescent Tron costume was an internet sensation back in '04.

Fortunately, if you love Tron but aren't keen to show off your bits in a flesh-colored unitard, there's a way to don Tron fashion without fear of embarrassment. If you happen to be in Los Angeles over the holidays, the Japanese maid café, Royal/T in Culver City is opening a Tron Pop-Up Shop on November 19.

Ford's Filling Station in Culver City has made a lot of noise for several reasons. One, it's helmed by Harrison Ford's son Benjamin Ford and in Los Angeles, any venture related to a celebrity is hot for at least two weeks. Two, Ford (Ben, not Harrison) has gone the route of a gastropub, often found in New York and London and other cities with more authentic culture than LA.

The other month we popped in for lunch on a Thursday. Having had some bad luck trying to get dinner reservations, we thought we should at least check to see if we needed a reservation for lunch before arriving. After all, Tinseltown loves to lunch and with the Sony studios nearby, we didn't want to take any chances. Turns out, reservations are recommended for lunch and dinner.

We finally made it over to the Museum of Jurassic Technology, expecting to be blown away by the various mind-benders on display. Unfortunately, the museum is already so impressed with itself there simply wasn't any room left for our potential awe.

The goal of the museum is admirable: To force people to think about the authority of museums and think about the differences in science museums and art museums. However, for a place that aims to blow your mind, there isn't much to the exhibits. Actor/magician Ricky Jay is pretty cool, but a narrated guide to his decaying dice collection just isn't that compelling.

To be fair, there are some diverting exhibits, like the trailer park dioramas (one of which is picture above) and the optical illusion collections. And, admission is only by suggested donation. This museum is good option if you're already going to one of Culver City's sexy new bistros, but not worth a cross-town trip on its own merits.
