Arendtsville, Pennsylvania is home to the 44th Annual National Apple Harvest Festival, this year, and the town, about 10 miles northwest of Gettysburg, is set to celebrate the harvest for the first two weekends of October. Besides chowing down on apples by the dozen, there's plenty more to keep your attention.
One of the highlights of the festival is the scrapple making booth. But if you're not into fried pork and cornmeal, there are more mainstream attractions. These include arts and crafts vendors, antique farm equipment, antique autos and, of course, apple art, apple jellies, apple syrup and candy apples. Organizers also promise lots of live music.
Locavore types can get their fill of info on how food goes from the farm to the table. Just remember not to eat too much of the apple pizza. (It's located in section J-4, for those already keeping score at home.)
