X-Men Origins: Bolt's Safe Haven in Florida

May 1, 2009 at 8:56 AM | by | Comments (0)

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is set to hit theaters Friday May 1st, and with so much drama in the XMO we put together the beginnings of a travel map that takes you to some of the places the Marvel crew have come from and gone to over the years. This is an organic map, so feel free to add to it in comments and we will plot the additional travel spots we find there.

Lost's Dominic Monaghan originally signed on to X-Men Origins: Wolverine to play Barnell “Beak” Bohusk, a mutant who grew feathers early in his life. But somewhere along the line, Beak was out and Monaghan's character became Chris Bradley, the electrical-powered mutant known as Bolt.

Bolt faced his fair share of adversity early on for being a mutant. His home was burned down by mutant-haters, who he assumed to be the Friends of Humanity group. He recruited the help of Maverick, Iceman and Wolverine to seek revenge on the Friends. After defeating them, Maverick helped his family create new identities as The Johnsons and relocated them to Altamonte Springs, Florida.

Altamonte Springs is located in the heart of mouse territory, about 20 miles north of Orlando, a far cry from the small, traveling carnival that Bolt ends up working at. This spring you'll be able to belly up to a burger bar at City Walk as Burger King opens it's first Whopper Bar with a Whopper Topper area. But you'll still have to wait a few months for the Universal Studios' Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster. Perhaps you can try switching off the light bulb at a local carnival instead.

X-Men Origins: Deadpool's Deadhut

In X-Men Origins: Wolverine Ryan Reynolds plays Deadpool, a mutant left disfigured and mentally unstable after Weapon X cured his cancer via a "healing factor" extracted from Wolverine.

Deadpool, born Wade Wilson, got his name in Doctor Killebrew's Workshop where he became part of a game called "the dead pool" in which inmates bet on which one of them would die next. He eventually escaped and left Canada for San Francisco.

Deadpool took up residence here in The Deadhut, a rotting house in the city by the bay that he disguised using holographic projection as he did with his own appearance.

Comic fans will appreciate San Fran’s annual comic convention, Wonder Con, that brings movie premieres, TV panels and comic book professionals to northern California annually. But as for finding a real-life Deadhut you might be disappointed. San Fran is quite known for its beautiful Victorian houses, such as the "Painted Ladies" that line the city's Alamo Square.

Nevertheless, according to Deadlpool's official MySpace Page he also likes Mexican food in addition to killing people. We recommend stopping into La Tacqueria in the Mission district for some excellent hot tacos stuffed with whatever you like, even beef tongue. Surely, Deadpool has been here before.

X- Men Origins: The Blob Comes From the Land Where Bigger is Better

Where: Lubbock , TX

The Blob was born Fred J. Dukes in Lubbock, Texas. But he wasn't always a blob. After working for William Stryker, he began to overeat as a coping mechanism. And he overate a lot. Like, United would make him buy a whole row if he wanted to fly on one of their planes. He finally got his enduring nickname while working in a circus sideshow before being recruited by Charles Xavier to join the X-Men.

When he got to the mansion, the others disliked his bad attitude and he wanted out. In an attempt to cover what happened at the mansion, Xavier erased his memory. The Blob still managed to escape and wrangled up the rest of the circus crew to attack the mansion. When they got there, Xavier erased everyone’s memories and the circus group headed back to Texas like nothing ever happened.

But that wasn’t the last we’d see of The Blob. He spent a brief time with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (after his memory was restored), was a member of the Factor Three, worked as an operative for the Secret Empire, and fought Professor X and the Defenders with the Brotherhood.

If you’re headed to The Blob’s hometown of Lubbock, you can put on the pounds by chowing down on a kick-ass smoked brisket at Tom and Bingo’s Hickory Pit. And you can rest assured that the town remains Swine Flu free...for now.

X-Men Origins: Sabertooth Known To Skulk Around Montana

Sabertooth’s origins are complicated. We're not quite certain where he came from and the theories of his relationship to Wolverine are endless. The prevailing one, however, is that they are brothers from another mother and this the storyline that the new movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, has decided to use.

Sabertooth was born Victor Creed but because his memory was tampered with, much of what has been documented about his past can not be trusted. But his long-running feud with Wolverine (/brother?)has been well-documented throughout the X-men series.

For a short period of time, Wolverine (then known as Logan) lived with the Blackfeet tribe on the Canadian border. Sparking their feud, Sabertooth tracked him down and killed his girlfriend, Silver Fox, on his birthday.

The Blackfeet tribe resides in Montana just east of Glacier National Park on the U.S./Canadian border. Glacier National Park is open year for camping, hiking and other outdoor activities. All facilities, including the park’s two lodges, are open from May to September.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine's Birthplace

Where: Alberta, Canada

Wolverine is a mutant whose primary power is the ability to heal quickly, typically referred to as his mutant healing factor. Despite popular belief, Wolverine was born with claws of bone. After he joined the Weapon X program, his skeleton was reinforced with adamantium (an indestructible metal). This is where his healing abilities really came in handy because each time he activated his claws, they would tear through his skin (ouch).

According to Origin, a limited series comic published by Marvel, Wolverine was born in a mining colony in Northern Alberta, Canada. His father, James Howlett, was a wealthy 19th Century plantation owner. Northern Alberta is also home to one of Canada's largest national parks, Wood Buffalo National Park. Open year round for hiking, boating, camping and fishing, Wood Buffalo can be reached by plane via Edmonton.

Wolverine didn’t stay in the colony for long. He left to live alone in the wilderness. From there, he joined a group of Blackfoot Indians, enlisted in the Canadian Army, spent time on the fictional island of Madripoor, and finally settled for a time in Japan.

In the summer of 2008, during the X-Men: Manifest Destiny phase, the heros shift their headquarters from Westchester to San Francisco. This is the first time the X-Men have changed their headquarters since their brief relocation to Australia back in the 1980s comics. No doubt with Australia's hurting tourism industry Aussies would welcome a Professor Xavier return, nonetheless Marin is the new location.
