· Downtown Chicago
In one of the best-known scenes from Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Ferris commandeers a float during the Von Steuben Day parade and performs "Twist & Shout" with busty be-dirndled girls. This happens on North Michigan Avenue, Chicago's major shopping and dining thoroughfare, where you can also hit up the Art Institute, locations of yet another Ferris Bueller scene.
· Winnetka, Illinois
As one of the many Chicago suburbs used by Hughes, Winnetka plays host to the Home Alone house at 671 Lincoln Avenue, the backyards which Ferris Bueller runs through towards the end of the movie, and the Congregational Church in She's Having A Baby. It's also not too far from the Home Alone church in Wilmette, Ill. and the various high schools (like Niles East in Sixteen Candles and Weird Science and Glenbrook North in Ferris Bueller which is also Hughes' own alma mater).
· Maine North High School
After watching The Breakfast Club who didn't fantasize being locked in detention on Saturday mornings? We personally wanted to do the Molly Ringwald dance on a bookshelf ourselves after seeing this 80s classic. Turns out the school was closed for two years before Hughes used it for his movie. He also shot some scenes for Ferris Bueller here and in both movies the high school is known as Shermer High School.
· Central Park in New York City
Home Alone 2, although not nearly as awesome as the original, is still a great family holiday movie. It was filmed mainly in New York, especially at Central Park and The Plaza Hotel at Central Park South.
· Walley World
In one of our personal favorite John Hughes films, National Lampoon's Vacation, the Griswalds set out on a road trip to the perfect family amusement park getaway in Walley World. Walley World is actually the current Six Flags Magic Mountain.
