You won't hear the hottest new touring band at The Rotunda, and whatever you do hear, it won't have the state-of-the-art sound system that Philadelphia's larger venues offer.

This early 20th-century church building was bought by the University of Pennsylvania in the 1990s and converted into a concert and cultural venue, with the goal of hosting events that interest both Penn students and the wider community.

The raw, open space also features film, dance, art and poetry, and if you're looking to host your own event, it's open to just about anything.

Most events are free (sometimes with a suggested donation), and because of the family-friendly atmosphere, the venue is alcohol- and smoke-free.
