The Daniel Day-Lewis vehicle "There Will Be Blood" also filmed in Texas, though the movie is set in turn-of-the-century California. While Marfa provided the backdrop for some scenes, the cast and crew also shot at El Mirage Dry Lake in the Mojave Desert. (You might remember the lake from the video for that God-awful Shania Twain song "That Don't Impress Me Much.")
And we can't forget the travel movie of the year: "Into the Wild." The sort-of tragic tale of Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch) and his trek into the Alaskan backcountry has inspired a surge of visitors to Denali National Park. The Fairbanks Convention and Visitors Bureau even printed up new guides with warnings about the dangers of setting off into the wilderness alone.
