Merchant Robinson Crusoe (Philip Winchester) is shipwrecked on a distant island while bringing a crew of slaves from Africa back to his native England. With only his loyal buddy/manservant Friday (Tongai Chirisa) for company, Crusoe reflects on his life back in England and dreams of someday being rescued by someone who does not eat people.
"Crusoe" probably boasts the most international cast of any new show this fall, from Sheffield native Sean Bean (who plays Crusoe's father), New Zealander Sam Neill and Zimbabwean newcomer Chirisa. (Despite his Britted up name, Philip Winchester is actually an American.) The bulk of the filming has been concentrated in York, England, home of the Crusoe family, but South Africa and the Seychelles are both standing in for Robinson's far-flung destinations.
