This week, we're highlighting the best restaurants in the Palermo 'hood of Buenos Aires.

While cozy Standard is nestled on a quiet street corner of Palermo Hollywood, Mott is in the thick of the flashiest part of the nabe. That explains the massive bar and towering liquor shelves--and the outrageously long cocktail list.

But chef María Lancio's "market cuisine" also deserves some attention--and we've got lots of love for female chefs!

Every meal at Mott starts with a little apéritif, whether that's a light sip of pisco or something with a dash of Campari. From there, you'll have to navigate that list of cocktails. Take our advice and stick to the standards; when there are dozens of drinks on the menu, the less-ordered ones are bound to be misses.

Drink firmly in hand, you'll have a chance to finally focus on the menu. While the exact offerings are always subject to change--"market cuisine" remember?--you can bank on a couple of steaks, a couple of seafood dishes and a couple more original dishes.

On our last visit, we were impressed by the lamb ragout, served with couscous and garnished with a bit of red currant jam. We still regret not finishing the massive curry-crusted hunk of beef we ordered a few months back. The house-made pastas are also a good bet.

Oh, and despite the flashy scene, we've had nothing but the nicest service at Mott. Trust us: That helps when your check for two comes to an expensive-for-BA 200 pesos ($65)!
