Kicking Back With BBQ And Music In The Austin Air At Tim's Porch

October 26, 2009 at 9:23 AM | by | Comments (0)

Last night, we kicked up our feet and drank a cold brew, nestled among aged oak trees at Austin, Texas’s newly renovated music venue, Tim’s Porch. We enjoyed the rockin’ bluesy sounds of John Gaar and Malford Milligan at the recently modified site, formerly known as the “Backyard” amphitheatre. The audience, an undoubtedly Austin-esque conglomeration of colorful characters, ranged from to crazy college kids to hippies in their sixties.

The Show:
John Gaar, originally from Louisiana, unleashed his soulful flair for strumming the guitar during the concert, a spicy compliment to Austinite, Malford Milligan’s Al Green-like sound and style. The collaboration was both entertaining and soothing. Everyone rocked out, including a 4-year old girl who burned up the dance floor all night. With multiple decks of comfortable, intimate seating and ample parking, Jaunted gives Tim’s Porch a thumbs up.

The Venue:
Having hosted notable artists including Willie Nelson, David Bowie, Sheryl Crow and Norah Jones, Tim’s Porch can be classified as one of the Hill Country’s best new, live music venues. Owner of Direct Events, Tim O’Conner, closed the original “Backyard” and reopened the venue as Tim’s Porch in April of 2009. O’Connor felt that a more intimate, outdoor Austin setting was of high importance to both artists and audiences.

How To Get There:
Tim’s Porch is located 13101 Highway 71 West, between 620 and Bee Caves Road on Highway 71. From Central Austin, take 35 S to 71W for 15 miles. There is plenty of onsite parking (for free) in the lot off of 71.

Where To Stay:
May we suggest Lakeway Resort and Spa if your pocketbook will allow you to pamper yourself. This Dolce Resort boasts a stellar, state of the art Spa Golf to write home about. If you’re pinching pennies however, the Hampton Inn Austin Lakeway is also an option with rooms starting at $139 a night.

Where To Eat:
Tim’s Porch serves tasty and hot, homemade barbeque sandwiches. But, for something a little more hoity toity, try The Grove Kitchen and Wine Bar on Bee Caves Rd, located within minutes of the venue. Other nearby restaurants serving all around good grub include Senor Buddy’s (Mexican) and good old Waffle House.
