The Best Happy Hours in New York City

A Jaunted/Thrillist Production

We love exotic travel, but sometimes the best vacations are the ones that start at 5:01. Which is why we teamed up with the boys at Thrillist--who spend their days and nights digging up cool places--for their favorite happy hour spots. They came back with five Manhattan bars that'll have you loosening your tie and downing shots before the sun goes down on a run-of-the-mill Wednesday night.

NYC's happy hour deals are constantly changing, as are the cast of characters that show up for these after work drink sessions, so we will keep our ears to the ground for you and you do the same for us, ok?

Details on the top early drinking bars are after the jump and you can plan your stumble home using the Best Happy Hours in Manhattan Map Mashup.

To get all of Thrillist's picks--in NYC and beyond--get on their daily email list.

Whistlin' Dixie's Texas Tavern
Dixie's is an over-the-top "Tequila Bar & Mexican Margarita Restaurant" staffed by ladies in Daisy Dukes and wifebeaters, offering 22 types of frozen drinks and 38 tequilas among other poisons. There are daily happy hours, the sweetest being Friday's unlimited margaritas ($10, 5-8pm) and Sunday's Service Industry Night, when exotic dancers drink free.

Lure Fishbar
A standby happy hour's crucial to a man's emotional wellbeing, but $2 watery beers and stale pretzels will only depress you. Fortunately, Soho's classily nautical Lure Fishbar just rolled out a happy option that meets all of your many needs, including $5 cocktails like the Grapefruit Margarita, $1 Blue Point Oysters and $4 Chili-Glazed Calamari.

The Continental
The highlight of punk rock mecca The Continental's 4 pm-4 am happy hour is 5 shots of anything for only $10, creating a wrinkle in time wherein you can start/end your evening at the exact same moment.

Izakaya Ten
This Japanese pub is boosting shochu appreciation by knocking $20 off bottles of the clear spirit all day Tuesday. Monday thru Friday from 5pm-7pm, you can also sample three shochus (or sakes) for only $6 with edamame thrown in gratis.

Satsko
This fantastically schizophrenic LES spot bills itself as "home of delicate Asian Fusion cuisine and the Sake-Bomb". Proof of the latter: Thursdays after 10pm, anyone who can take manager Warren "Fastest Gullet in the East" Bayani in a bombing duel drinks free house sake the rest of the night.
