THE RACE
The teams have to hightail it from India to Vienna, or as the Globetrotters say, the home of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Everyone is on the same flight, except for the cowboys, who arrive a half-hour later.
In chilly Vienna, the teams have to drive backwards in a garage to see letters painted on the ground appear in the Ford's TV screen thanks to a backup camera. It spells out "Schloss Schallaburg," a castle that will have their next clue. The racers quickly get it, but Ms. Kentucky's dad misunderstands and tries finding the clue in the GPS.
The BFFs arrive at the castle first, where they are pointed to the National Library. As the only dating team left, the pink and black attack start to feel the race put a strain on their relationship and start bickering on the way to the library. "I just need you to stop acting like a chick and just go into problem-solving mode and not, like, emotional, mean blaming mode," pink says.
DETOUR
Teams hit a detour in the library: Long Hard Walk or Quick & Easy Meal. In the former, racers go to the Freud Museum and former home of the doc and work together to transport an analyst couch a mile to the University of Vienna. In Quick & Easy Meal, teams must go to the Wiener Riesenrad, a Ferris wheel made famous by Orson Welles' Third Man.
Then they must get two big schnitzels, enter a dining car in the wheel and eat all of the food during one 12-minute rotation. The sisters and the BFFs opt for shoving down the food. However neither team finishes in time and ends up switching to the other detour for fear of barfing. Ms. Kentucky's dad scarfs down his food, but his pageant daughter can't. "Whenever you have to do both sides of a detour, that’s bad," dad says."You really let people catch up."
The racers doing the couch task encounter some difficulty because they have a small dolly to move the couch and there's snow on the ground. Big Easy gets frustrated and just starts carrying the sofa himself. The cowboys, who are pretty defeated at this point, run into the BFFs on their way to the museum, which gives the cowboys the motivation they need. "That was the first light at the end of the tunnel we've seen," one of them says. We want to slap Kent for excessive baby whining about carrying the couch while pink hauls it like a pro.
Next up, racers have to go to a Salzburg restaurant for the next clue. There, they hit a roadblock. The pink and black attack start up again with their fighting when Kent won't listen to pink's directions. "I cannot deal with your psycho behavior," she says. "You’re just ignoring me completely and driving around in circles. If we get eliminated today, I swear to God I’m never going to speak to you again."
ROADBLOCK
In this roadblock, a team member has to don a special uniform and do some chimney sweeping, a symbol of good luck in Austrian culture. They use a special roped tool to clean a chimney. Although the tool is heavy, the racers have no problems doing the spring cleaning.
PIT STOP
The pit stop is Villa Trapp, the real home of the Von Trapp family, who were depicted in the Sound of Music. The Globetrotters were in the lead, but then miss the turn for the house and come in second; the BFFs come in first and each gets a Ford Focus. The pink and black attack grab third. "This is the best we've ever done in the race," pink says. "Maybe we just need to fight more." God, no.
OUSTED
Although the cowboys lagged the entire leg, they worked hard and got fifth. "It’s time to step it up, or we’re gonna have to go home," Cord says. Ms. Kentucky and her dad come in last, but they find out it's a nonelimination leg and they're still in it to win it.
NEXT WEEK
Racers head to Liechtenstein, where Ms. Kentucky and her pops struggle to stay in the game.
