Teams depart Beijing, China, for Maui, Hawaii. After the eighteen hour flight, they must find Beach Access 118 and participate in th preparation of a traditional Hawaiian luau. Teams select a pig, season it with local spices, and then haul the 145 pound carcass over 200 yards and cover it in preparation for roasting. Teams must follow the example in order to receive the next clue. Margie and Luke are third to arrive, but power past Tammy and Victor and the cheerleaders, who seems to be having a really rough time carrying the dead weight. This is an extremely physical task, and it definitely puts Luke and Margie ahead of the other two teams.
Next, teams must take a taxi to McGregor Point, where they will find load onto personal watercraft and take a one mile ride out to a field of buoys. Once there, they must find a marked buoy with the next clue. Margie and Luke head out first, but manage to take a tumble into the water. They find the clue quickly and head back to shore. This is on of the few times teams are actually controlling their race vehicle, and we found it relieving and exhilirating to not hear Jaime yelling at a taxi driver for once.
ROADBLOCK
Teams make their way along the Hana Highway to find a surfboard
fence. Once there, they must search among 300 vintage surfboards and find eleven that
match the eleven legs of the Race, and put them in order. Luke is first out of the
gate and makes amazing headway. Victor arrives second, and gets straight to work, with
Jaime arriving last. Luke gets to the last two legs and can't seem to find the right
combination. In his frustration, Victor completes the task first, and he and Tammy are
off to the finish line. Luke helps Jaime figure out one of her missing boards, and she
returns the favor with his last two. Now, all three teams are racing to the finish
line.
THE FINISH LINE
This time, there's no nail-biting finish. It's Tammy and Victor, who arrive way ahead
of the other two teams at King Kamehameha
Golf Club. They've run a decent race, but we've found Victor's shenanigans
annoying throughout this season. Thankfully, they blocked a possible Jaime/Cara win --
which would have been frustrating to about 99% of the viewers. Instead, they take
second, with Margie and Luke in third. At this stage of the game, there really are no
losers -- just people who didn't win a million bucks. We think Margie and Luke may
have inspired millions of viewers with their "can-do" attitude and love of the Race.
