Teams must travel by taxi to a retired Russian nuclear submarine. Once there, they must search the sub to find the sonar room and an actor who appeared in The Hunt for Red October to receive the next clue. Both Dallas and Tina use their drawing skills to illustrate a submarine for their taxi drivers. Teams then travel across town to Park Iskusstv--the graveyard of fallen monuments--and search the grounds for their next clue. Teams are all greeted by that infamous insane Moscow traffic, and everyone is stuck trying to work their way to the park.
Team members must scour the park filled with Soviet-era monuments. They must find and count the correct number of Lenin (6) and Stalin (2) monuments. Once they have those numbers, they're combined to create the number 62. Then, racers make their way to an antique bookstore and reveal the number to the shopkeeper. If the team member is correct, they receive their next clue. If not, they must wait ten minutes before trying again. The clue directs team members to the apartment building of famed Russian author, Mikhail Bulgakov, where they are reunited with their teammate, and given the next clue.
Nick and Starr get to the challenge first; Nick plows through and gets the numbers right on his first try, sending he and Starr into a commanding lead. Dallas works the Roadblock and comes up with an incorrect number, with Tina right behind him. They work together, but Tina ends up getting the correct number first while Dallas had to wait almost ten additional minutes. On the way to he apartment building, Dallas accidentally leaves the pouch with his and Toni's passports and all of their money in a taxi and doesn't realize it until after the cab has driven away. This critical error breathes a little life into Andrew and Dan's race--and they must still complete an additional Speed Bump. Teams must take a taxi to Sokol'niky Park and search for a lady with a Shetland Pony. She will give them the next clue.
This week, teams must choose Ride the Rails or Ride the Lines. In Rails, teams must navigate Moscow's extensive and efficient subway line. Stopping at designated stations, they must retrieve a pastry and then deliver it to a lady in a babushka near another station. She will give them the clue to their final destination of the Detour. In Lines, teams must use the trolley bus system to get to another park, pick up a storage locker key and navigate back to another station. Once there, the must find the corresponding locker to retrieve the clue to their final destination.
Dallas and Toni are forced to beg for money to try to make it to the next clue. They take a metro trolley to the park and are denied the next clue because they were supposed to take a taxi. So, it's back to the apartment building to start over. They manage to find assistance and money from several very generous citizens. Ken and Tina ride the lines, while Nick and Starr zip through Rails.
We can only thank the producers of the race for making Andrew and Dan perform with traditional Russian dancers. Both Andrew and Dan lack any sense of rhythm, and Dan flails around like an injured pelican. It's a stunning display--and almost as good as the marching drill last week. In the end, they pass inspection on receive their next clue.
VDNKh Park is this week's Pit Stop and a tribute to the achievements of the Socialist State. Nick and Starr manage a strong first place finish and win a trip for two to Anguilla, and a guaranteed spot in the final three. Andrew and Dan stun everyone with a second place finish, with Ken and Tina in third. However, Ken and Tina failed to pick up a clue and must head back to retrieve it. In the end, they complete that and secure their position in the final three.
It's the final elimination, and we're pained that it's Toni and Dallas. They deserve to be in the top three, but that's the way the race goes. One mistake can lose it all, and both Dallas and Toni say a tearful goodbye. Sorry to see you go, and good luck with those lost passports!
As Dan and Andrew have proven, it's still anyone's race. Next week will be a sprint to the finish line and competition is fierce. Who will manage to make it to the finish line first and win The Amazing Race? Don't miss next week's finale!
