Howl-O-Scream
Scare Tactics
There’s loads of stuff here to freak out even the most seasoned visitor. Haunted midways will make you think again before taking the quick route to your favorite attraction. There’s zombies lurking in the shadows and crossing through a cemetery at night is never the best idea. The Demented Forest and Escape From The Asylum are two of the park’s terror trails, but unfortunately they do cost a little extra. Just think of them as an amped up version of a haunted house.
The park is really heavy on the spooky entertainment. The Ghoulmaster's Ghosts are always inviting people to participate in a haunted ghost party. This year it will be a Michael Jackson tribute, which is slightly creepy if you ask us, but at least Thriller is always a good way to celebrate the season. The park makes the most of its ghosts at the Dead Man's Party, and it’s scary because we can’t escape reality TV. So You Think You Can Dance runner up Ashlé Dawson hosts the performance as zombies bust a move to the latest hits.
Where
1 Six Flags Blvd in beautiful Jackson, New Jersey. It’s exit 7A for those that just have to know.
2009 Dates:
You’re welcome to visit as a guest of the ghouls now through November 1. The park is open on Friday evenings and then all day on Saturday and Sunday. If you’re lucky enough to have Columbus Day off, you’re in luck, as the park is open on October 12 as well.
Weekend hours are 10:30am until 11:00pm, and on Fridays it’s a quick 5:00pm to 11:00 pm. Things start to get spooky after 6pm, but if you’re a little pumpkin, don’t worry. Sign up for ghoul repellent and you’ll get a whistle to stop ghosts in their tracks—unfortunately it’s only for kids under 12.
Cost
There’s all kinds of tickets available, and you can actually get into Fright Fest for free if you throw down for a 2010 season pass—it’s $80. If you're not into the whole initial investment thing, it will be just $40 if you buy your ticket online. However, beware of parking. It’s $15 in advance online, so we’re thinking that it will be at least $20 at the park—that’s pretty scary.
Event Hotel Options:
Most people are probably going to hit up Fright Fest and then head back to their homestead somewhere in the Northeast. There’s few hotel options in the area and the options aren’t worth the money. If you just have to stay over because everything was just too scary, check out one of several local Hampton Inns. They are hardly resorts, but are way better than the Red Roof Inn.
