Barbados Tries To Sell You On Its Five Big Festivals For 2010
The Crop Over Festival is a non-stop party that lasts for almost two months.
As the year comes to a close and you start thinking about vacations for 2010, the Barbados Tourism Authority wants travelers to know that Barbados isn't just a Caribbean beach destination. Sure, the sand and ocean make for sexy scenery, but the island doesn't want to rest on its beauty. The Tourism Authority released a schedule of events for '10 to show it's got some substance, or at least some cool festivals and events.
Check out some of the upcoming year's highlights after the jump.

Barbados Will Be Sunny and Warm, Or Your Money Back
Are you whacking your desk repeatedly with a pen because of anxiety over Memorial Day travel plans? Good; it's nice to know we're not the only ones. To relieve the stress of finding a great spring getaway for a long weekend, which will also have amazing weather during your visit, Barbados has introduced a "Perfect Weather Guarantee."
Say you book the $549 airfare + hotel + breakfast deal on CheapCaribbean.com, only to arrive to Barbados during an unexpected rainstorm. If that rain accumulates to over a quarter of an inch, and the temperature falls below 78 degrees, you'll be entitled to a $100 per bad weather day rebate.
It's free to enroll on the Perfect Weather Guarantee website, just be sure to do so before June 7 for travel between May 28th and December 18th, 2009. This might not include Memorial Day Weekend, but booking through CheapCaribbean comes with the very same deal valid now, just that they call it "SPF100 Protection." It'll be nice to let someone else worry about the weather for once.

Can 'Anyone' Really Learn to Surf?
Dream a little dream for us: In this weekend's New York Times travel section, rock'n'roll saves an industrial casualty, the Rat Pack lives and anyone can surf. Hey, it's nice to escape every once in a while, but why not stick to places that exist beyond the pages of the Gray Lady?
We're not saying the writers involved didn't do their due diligence in finding a silver lining to every cloud. Detroit's music scene as chronicled by Micheline Maynard presents as one very much alive, albeit through the IV of bored teenagers and repeated shocks administered by the Pussycat Dolls.
Atlantic City may yet rise above the ashes to become a rival to Vegas, although the existence of Amtrak's service alone doesn't have much to do with it, nor is Steven Kurutz's review of same particularly inspired. ("I sat behind two mustached men"; good for you!)

2008's Celebrity Traveler Of The Year Is...
Under that hat, she's got a well-stamped passport: We followed Rihanna all over the world this year, and whether she was alone or traveling with that special someone, we wanted to be wherever the petite Barbadian went.
We first checked out the singer's new West Coast tattoo in 2008; from there, she was spotted at The Grammys, in Mexico City and Paris. And how could we forget her adventures with fellow R&B singer Chris Brown on Virginia roller coasters and meeting the parents?
"Take a Bow," Rihanna! Let's hope 2009 sends you and your sweetie to even more corners of the globe.

Airport Photo Shoot: Rihanna and Chris Plan Their Escape
How do two hot R&B stars make their getaway? In extraneous layers, apparently! Rihanna and Chris Brown are heading back to the US from Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados (where she was born), but they sure don't look as if they were just on the beach!
Rihanna has the rest of the summer off from touring, while Brown has one more concert on Wednesday before taking a tour break. Hopefully they'll have time for a less stressful vacation.

Where To Show Off Your Post Pregnancy Bounce Back Body

Sandy Lane Hotel resort in Barbados, according to Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen, who chose the $1700 per night resort for a recent "reconnection trip"--sans kids.
So make a mental note: If you need to reconnect with your estranged husband after child #2, put Sandy Lane on the short list. After all, the star of Two and a Half Men can't be wrong.
