Eat 'n Sleep Anguilla :: Relax in Solitude at CoveCastles

Where: Anguilla

Our Eat 'n Sleep feature profiles a restaurant in a random city and a hotel nearby. It's kinda like that old show "Dinner and a Movie" but you know, with restaurants and hotels. And better jokes.

When it comes to escaping the winter chill and finding the ultimate relaxation, it's gotta be Anguilla. The tiny island in the middle of the Caribbean is the perfect place to unwind with white sand beaches and delicious fruity cocktails. (The fact that celebs descend on the island in winter has nothing to do with our fascination, really!)

For those in search of solitude with their sunshine there's CoveCastles. The private villa resort sits on its own secluded cove and offers the perfect combination of beauty, luxury and peace and quiet. In addition to four-star accommodations, CoveCastles has complimentary tennis courts, bicycles, snorkeling and Sunfish sailboats. Guests can also sign on for deep sea fishing and scuba diving trips.

The best part about this low profile, high class joint? It's got it's own world-class restaurant too. CoveCastles Restaurant serves French-Caribbean cuisine prepared by Executive Chef Dominique Thevenet. The menu combines haute-cuiseine with organic produce and local fish. Guest can dine in the restaurant, in its garden or for an added degree of privacy, in their villas. As one guest says, "I thought I died and went to Heaven." Sounds good to us.

Discovery Channel Says: You Can't Handle the Truth!

Where: Anguilla

Update: The above photo, along with all the photos here, are of the real Anguilla. We don't have the images from "Discovery Channel's Anguilla"....yet. If you have 'em, send 'em. Also: Looks like there are plenty of beautiful Anguilla beaches--many suitable for a commercial--what gives?

They say it in actions, if not words. That's because a current Discovery Channel commercial features some suspicious views of "Anguilla" called into question by a commenter at the Perrin Post. After the Post weighed in on the Tennessee/Alaska snafu, commenter lorib mentioned this:

The ad that bothers me right now is the Discovery Channel "Club 1080". You can win a trip to a destination, and when they feature Anguilla, they show a waterfall and lush green surroundings. I think they confused that footage with Costa Rica, as the Anguilla I have visited multiple times is arid and no waterfalls that I could find - they do have a few cliffs, so maybe during a heavy rain.
lorib adds that Anguilla is nonetheless a wonderful place, but the view in the ad doesn't quite add up. We've never been to Anguilla, but believe lorib is correct and the island has no real waterfalls. To add insult to injury, a Los Angeles Times article from 2006 did call Anguilla "downright homely."

Beyonce & Jay-Z's Weekend Travel Plans

Rumors are swirling that mega-music twosome Beyonce and Jay-Z are set to add a little marital bliss to their upcoming weekend travel plans.

Under the guise of throwing her man a four-day 37th birthday bash, Beyonce has invited tons of family and friends to St.Barts on Friday, urging them to "get their passports ready for the party," which is kicking off on a private yacht.

But insiders are saying that once guests do arrive, they'll be quickly ferried over to nearby Anguilla for a surprise wedding ceremony at the lavish Cap Juluca resort, a swank five-star hotel featuring Moorish-style private villas (every one with an ocean view), an aqua golf course, and a spa.

That's an interesting way to get your man to commit. Our invite must have gotten lost in the mail, but we'll keep you posted.
