'The Conspirator' Descends on Savannah

Savannah locals have become accustomed to sharing the streets with horses and buggies over the past few weeks. But they aren't just another tourist attraction; they're actually props for The Conspirator. Robert Redford is directing the film, which is set in 1865 Washington, D.C. and re-creates the trial of Mary Surratt, the only woman among those executed for conspiring to kill President Abraham Lincoln. He's brought an all-star cast along with him too. Robin Wright Penn is playing Mary Surratt and James McAvoy plays her attorney, Frederick Aiken. Justin Long, Alexis Bledel, Tom Wilkinson, Kevin Kline and Evan Rachel Wood have all joined the cast as well.

Savannah's historical look lends itself well to the period piece, though they've still had to make some small changes along the way. For instance, while filming last week, the cobblestone streets in Savannah's historical district were covered with dirt and period flags and signage were brought in for accuracy. The city's famous squares have come in handy too. The Campion-Fowlkes House on Oleans Square has already been used in a party scene and nearby Chatham Square was used for exteriors. Today, Redford continues filming in Savannah's historic district, along West Bay Street.

Are Miley and Nick Rekindling Their Romance in Georgia?

Miley Cyrus has arrived in Georgia for her next movie, The Last Song, and already locals are in a tizzy over the teen. Although The Last Song doesn’t officially start production in Savannah and nearby Tybee Island until next week, the film's stars are already in town prepping for their roles and enjoying a little R&R.

Miley’s definitely having a good time so far, tweeting earlier in the week, “in love with Savannah.” Tuesday, she was spotted by several locals on a jet ski with ex-boyfriend Nick Jonas, who reportedly flew in to work a “duet” with the tween idol, a likely story from a guy who promised his mom he’d stay a virgin and a girl who just broke up her boyfriend. But we’re not buying it, especially since two of them were spotted flirting over the weekend in Malibu.

Miley Cyrus Heads to Savannah for Next Film

Miley Cyrus may be having the best week ever. Not only did “Hannah Montana” earn $34 million over the weekend but she also recently signed onto her next Disney film, “The Last Song”, written by Nicholas Sparks specifically for her.

After contending with North Carolina for "The Last Song", Savannah, Georgia has announced it will be the location for the movie which begins filming this summer. Savannah has hosted several movies already including "Forest Gump" and "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil".

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day in…Georgia?

When we crowned Chicago as the best St. Patrick's Day city, we were mostly comparing it to New York, Boston and Dublin, and have to admit we overlooked one of the biggest Irish pride fests in the country. Thanks to commenter morrrilld for pointing out that Savannah, Georgia, of all places, has the second-largest St. Patrick's Day party in the country.

The city's 185th annual parade is expected to bring out some 400,000 people, and there's no bowing to other cities by staging an early party—Savannah celebrates on the day itself, Tuesday, March 17. And while they may not top Chi-town in the green water department, Savannah does pretty well too, dying the water in Forsyth Park's historic fountain green.

As for where to get your post-parade Guinness, we have to admit we're not too up on the Savannah pub scene. Anyone out there have recommendations for St. Patrick's Day in Savannah? Let us know.

The Lady & Sons :: We know, visiting the website of Food Network host Paula Deen might give you an overdose of y'all, but her genteel Southern restaurant in the heart of the historic district is Exhibit A as to why displaced Southerners still pine for the cuisine of their homeland.

For best results, mix everything together; the pungent green beans and okra swept up in the mashed potatoes, a bite of macaroni with a nibble of fried chicken.
