Take a 'Vegcation' at the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary This Spring

We've all heard of staycationers or voluntourists, but "vegcationers?" Compassion Over Killing and Green Earth Travel are hoping vegcations become the next hot trend in travel thanks to the vegan-friendly "vegcation" destination weekend they have planned this spring.

The two groups have organized a weekend getaway on May 19-23, 2011 which will begin at the Woodstock Farm Sanctuary in upstate New York, where volunteers will spend two days helping to groom, feed, and socialize with the farm's rescued cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, goats & sheep. They will also be served homemade vegan meals throughout their stay.

Little Illinois Town Celebrates 'Groundhog Day' Over and Over

In Woodstock, Illinois, Groundhog Day is the biggest holiday of the year. In fact, the town throws a six-day party called Groundhog Days to celebrate, which this year is January 28 to February 2. But really, every day in Woodstock is Groundhog Day.

That's because Woodstock, which is about 50 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, was the site for the 1993 Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell flick Groundhog Day. And the town takes the honor of being a stand-in for Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, seriously with a slew of events that revolve around the movie.

How to Volunteer at the Woodstock Film Festival

Woodstock isn't just for hippies anymore. Thanks to the Woodstock Film Festival, which has been bringing "fiercely independent" film to upstate New York for more than a decade, Woodstock has become a haven for filmmakers and movie fans too.

This year's fest will feature more than 150 films, panels, performances and events. WFF will also honor writer/director Bruce Beresford, film distribution trailblazer Bob Berney and actor Keanu Reeves during the 11th annual Maverick Awards Ceremony, which will be held on October 2.

Back of the Envelope Guide: Woodstock Film Festival

Cashing in on the leaf-peepers headed to the Hudson Valley and Catskills in the fall, the town of Woodstock, New York, offers the 2008 Woodstock Film Festival from October 1 to 5.

This year's "fiercely independent" festival is offering up 43 premiers, including 10 world premiers. This year's 2008 honorary maverick award will go to filmmaker Kevin Smith--and his film, "Zack and Miri Make a Porno," will close the festival.
