'Jersey Shore' Will First Conquer Your Television, Then Your Vacation

January 15, 2010 at 9:30 AM | by JetSetCD | 1 Comment

Have you thrown or attended a Jersey Shore party yet? Apparently they are all the rage, and not just in clubs where the cast is being tens of thousands of dollars to appear. People are throwing these parties in their own homes, voluntarily giving themselves "guidette poofs" with bumpits, or blowing out the Pauly D hair in good fun.

After last night's episode, we're sure that the parties will spread to whole weekend-long events, since the cast headed even further down the Shore for a mini-vacation at The Tropicana in Atlantic City. Not surprisingly, they found more girls to "pound out" and more guys to "smush."

Does MTV's 'Jersey Shore' Show Make You Want To Vacation There?

December 11, 2009 at 9:32 AM | by JetSetCD | 3 Comments

Have you ever "gone down the shore?" Or, better yet, have you seen the new Mtv reality show, following a group of people as they go down the shore for a summer of debauchery and fist pumping on the Jersey Shore? You either love it or despise it with a passion, but it's without a doubt a perfect train wreck of a show, and last night aired the third episode, where the strangers finally mesh and accept their fate to work through the summer as employees at a cheap souvenir T-shirt shop on the boardwalk.

Although the action happens in Seaside Heights, New Jersey, a vacation destination about an hour away from New York City, the antics of the self-professed "guidos" and "guidettes" are rousing the anger in both Times Square (at MTV's HQ) and the heart of dirty Jerz. There are groups (ah hem New Jersey Tourist Board) arguing that the show is stereotyping everything from Italian Americans to New Jerseyans to Staten and Long Islanders (since most of the kids hail from there). But what's really being put on display here, what's really under the microscope, is the loneliness and confusion of the summers of youth.

Seaside Heights Heating Up Already

May 17, 2006 at 10:00 AM | by AVB | 0 Comments

Who could have guessed that Seaside Heights was roiling with class tensions? Not us; we just like it because it keeps us far more entertained conceptually than any other beach town on the Eastern Seaboard ever could, Southampton included. However, our story yesterday, covering the impending gentrification of Seaside Heights--OK, the construction of some luxury condos--seems to have touched a nerve. One reader writes:

It appears the author doesn't want to see this town with upscale places and people. Maybe he's one of those people who comes to this town, blasts loud music, throws trash on my lawn and acts like a complete animal once they cross the bridge to come here. With all this "upscale" going on here, maybe it will stop, and the author will actually have to behave like a grown man or find another town to fight and get drunk in. Maybe, finally the party is over for these inconsiderate animals, and he doesn't like that at all. Only someone of his caliber would mock what's going on in this town. As for me, a longtime resident, I'm ready to have some peace around here.   All this construction is aimed at keeping the "garbage" out and my neighbors and I are looking forward to it.

Honestly, crossing the bridge to get to New Jersey is the last thing on our mind.
