Whale Disrupts Eastern Seaboard Boat Traffic

February 26, 2009 at 12:12 PM | by egw | 1 Comment

Free Amby! The Coast Guard is steering ships around a humpback whale whose position off the New Jersey is blocking a major East Coast shipping artery.

The whale, dare we call it a fail whale, got tangled in some netting eight miles off Sandy Hook, N.J., very close to the Ambrose Channel -- the major shipping channel to the Port of New York. Whale experts will come today to cut the whale free; until then, boats will be steering around the magnificent creature.

Don't blame your extra-long lunch on the whale though; right now he isn't blocking any commuter routes by sea, so unless you're a shipping container, you shouldn't have to worry. However, we suspect the humans that set the whale free will win immunity when the Animal Revolution strikes.
