Upload Your UFO Sightings at Richmond International Airport

March 31, 2009 at 2:52 PM | by | Comments (0)

Good news for anyone bent on razzing Flack4RIC on Twitter (uh, us?): Richmond International Airport has free WiFi. All the better to upload your photos of the mysterious, potentially paranormal light shows which even Matt Drudge has taken an interest in.

According to the U.S. Naval Observatory, the bright streaks of light reported around Richmond and Baltimore are probably pieces from a Russian space experiment gone bust. But the National Weather Service has no explanation for the Sunday-night show, which in some areas included a loud booming noise around 9:45PM.

Seen anything creepy on your trip? Tell us about it!

Airport WiFi: Surfing in Vancouver

Where: 3211 Grant McConachie Way, Richmond, BC, Canada

Contribute your airport wireless report by leaving it in comments, uploading your airport photo to Jaunted Flickr Photo Pool, or via email, and we will add it to our U.S. Airport Wireless map.

Our Airport WiFi Guide focuses on US airports not because we don't love flying elsewhere but because that's where we spend most of our time. Fortunately, our tipsters are a well-traveled bunch, who go to literary festivals and other swanky jet-set events.

After stopping in Vancouver International, Diane wrote in with great things to say:

Passing through YVR last week on our way home from the Surrey International Writers' Conference, we found that WiFi is free in the airside international terminal. This has to be one of the prettiest places to websurf in any airport I know. Sit in the restaurant across from the splashing of the salmon stream (!), have a glass of cool white wine and get caught up on those emails.

We'd be happy to the next chance we get. Until then, we'll add YVR to our Airport WiFi Map.

Have an airport WiFi experience to share? Let's hear it.

A Day in Starfish Hell

July 19, 2005 at 10:24 AM | by | Comments (0)

The Washington Post sent a travel writer to spend a day as Patrick, the cross-eyed starfish sidekick of Spongebob at a Richmond theme park. Meaning he had to dress up in a ridiculous five-armed hot pink, sweltering outfit to see "what's behind the fences and landscaped sets." :

I'm not allowed to talk in here, so I can't tell this 6-year-old to lay off. I scan around for help, but inside my suit it's dark and hot. I check my key-chain thermometer: 102 degrees. My plastic starfish eyes are fogged. It feels as if someone -- maybe SpongeBob, who is gyrating next to me -- has sucked the oxygen out of my suit.

It gets better. He gets wedged in a doorway and then practically lands on one of the 7,500 kids trying to hug him.
