Training Camp Travel: Following The Dallas Cowboys

August 17, 2010 at 9:31 AM | by | Comments (0)

Are you ready for some football? It’s still several weeks before the NFL season kicks off to provide meaning to our Sundays once again, but training camp has arrived. We’ve checked out what’s going on at several spots and teams around the league, and this is what we found:

This year’s Super Bowl is going to take place in Dallas, so it would be pretty convenient if the Cowboys were able to make it all the way to the big game. Last year they finally won a playoff game under Tony Romo, but it’s going to take a lot more than that to make it all the way to the season’s final game.

· When's Camp:
The Cowboys started camp almost a month ago, so at this point the team should already have shaken off most of the off season cobwebs. Practice runs through August 27, but there are some breaks in the schedule, like when the team heads to San Diego for a preseason game this weekend. Twice a day practices are fairly common and usually take place at 9am and then at 3:15pm. If the team is only doing their thing once a day it’s usually at 2:15pm.

Get Caught Red-Handed at the California Strawberry Festival

Where: 3250 S. Rose Ave. [map], Oxnard, CA, United States, 93033

Who doesn't love themselves a plump, juicy strawberry? Okay, we don't love them enough to dress up in fruit knitwear like the above Strawberry Shortcake. But we'd show up to the 27th annual California Strawberry Festival in Oxnard, California on May 15 and 16 to honor the sweet berry.

By "honor" we mean "eat." According to the festival, Ventura County produces 27 percent of the state's strawberries, which means they'll be in abundance at the more than 50 food booths. There will be unusual fare, like strawberry pizza and strawberry nachos, while purists will go for dishes like chocolate-dipped strawberries.

Summer Camp Travel: Jessica Simpson Visits Her Man

July 31, 2008 at 8:50 AM | by | Comments (0)

Make sure to bring him back before campfire! Tony Romo got a special treat at NFL training camp when girlfriend Jessica Simpson came to take him out to dinner Wednesday. What, no s'mores?

For all the noise about how Simpson jinxed Romo in the playoffs, we suspect it may be the other way around: Since they got together, Jessica has decided to be a country-music singer, for which she was booed at a concert in Wisconsin and roundly mocked the world over. (We haven't heard the album, so we don't know the difference.)
