We were shocked--shocked--to see Matthew McConaughey, Our Lord Of Perpetual Bare-Chestedness, with a covered torso on a recent surfing trip in Malibu. The famously shirtless new dad covered up with a neoprene top that he paired with board shorts in a fashion move that probably puzzled the paparazzi out of harassing him.
Maybe this is just a promo shoot for his upcoming movie "Surfer Dude," but if Matt really wanted to rip up some waves he'd check out our Honky Tonk Surf Towns map. Watch the trailer for this year's most pointless movie--featuring McConaughey, naturally shirtless--after the jump.

So daughters Sam and Lola aren't quite big enough to travel under their own power. In the mean time, mom Denise Richards gives them that little extra push to get to the park in Malibu.
Hey Denise, when they're old enough, check out this list of family biking tips from the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition. Before you take them on something bigger than a trike, make sure they've got the right helmets with help from Away.com. And don't take them to Boobs on Bikes--yet, anyway.

Half way through August and we haven't mentioned the Polaroid Beach House in Malibu. However, Carmen Electra's carefully orchestrated bikini strip, filmed by everyone, and shown everywhere, reminded us that our readers were inquiring about the billionaire beach house earlier this summer.
This summer the house has obviously seen less of Lindsay Lohan, however, the Entourage cast and crew hosted a screening party for their current season there -- complete with large screen HD televisions, bbq style food, and plenty of booze.
As for your beach house questions, our answers are below, Carmen's bikini flaunting photos are après jump.
What is the Polaroid Beach House?
A summer beach house that aims to gather "the Hollywood it crowd to interact with Polaroid's latest gadgets". Polaroid's words, not ours.
Where is it?
Behind Ralph's on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. This map should help you out.
I am traveling to LA. Can I go?
Probably not. It is invite only, though you can walk there from a public beach, but if the tide is in you might get stuck. More likely than having to swim for it? Security intercepts and boots you long before you get to the house. However, if you are carrying a zoom lens camera and look like a weekly rag photographer, security might let you gather with the rest of the always present photogs.

If you've visited Los Angeles or have had the misfortune to live there for a while, you know about the town's triumverate of coffee chains--Starbucks, Coffee Bean and Peet's Coffee.
But there's a chain out there that's better than all of them, for several reasons but great coffee and free wireless are among the top.
Diedrich Coffee is a product of Orange County where the company's headquarters started back in the 1970. However, this isn't just some old coffee shop that expanded.
Nope, the Diedrich family began their coffee obsession back in the early 1900s when the matriarch, Charlotte, inherited a coffee plantation in Costa Rica. From then on her sons and grandsons took over the business, starting up a new plantation in Guatemala and then expanding the coffee shops across Orange County.
Today there's about 23 locations in the OC and randomly, they also have a three locations in Denver and three in Texas.
Up in LA County, the Diedrich's in Malibu is a local favorite. Located across the street from the celebrity and paparazzi-ridden Malibu Country Mart (this is where Britney was driving away from with Sean P. on her lap), Diedrich's is quiet and small, but there's enough room to sit down with your laptop for an hour of free wireless, with a purchase of course.
And you will want to purchase a drink here because they are delicious and fresh. Not some mass-created junk like a frappucino. Our fave? A mocha latte with whip cream and pieces of freshly shaved chocolate sprinkled on top.
Insider Tip: If you can't handle the trek to Malibu up the Pacific Coast Highway (which can get crowded), then check out the other Diedrich location in Santa Monica on Montana Avenue. [Update: This location as of Jan. 3, 2007 is closed]

More than half way through October it is predictably cold and damp here in the east. However, out west, Kate Hudson shows us that the water is still perfectly fine in Malibu. Jealous, we have become.
More pics of Kate in the water.

Let the backlash begin! Various gossip rags are beginning to chart the demise of Brangelina, saying they sleep in different rooms, etc. How can that be true, we ask, when they're taking the kids out on lovely family excursions and so very publicly enjoying themselves?
This weekend they hit up the
Paradise Cove Cafe in Malibu, an upscale version of a fish and chips-style beach shack. It's quite literally on the beach, so you can catch your own dinner, and located in a pocket of the Earth that seems to stay warm, sunny and full of celebs year-round. Despite this being health-conscious (or rather, bikini-conscious) Southern California, the Cafe's fried goodness, such as the onion rings, gets the highest marks, as does the house clam chowder. Plenty of opportunity to walk it off on the beach afterward.

Lindsay Lohan camped out at the Polaroid Beach House in Malibu all weekend with her new beau, Harry Morton, of the
Hard Rock Hotel Morton family. They were all over each other yesterday at the Polaroid pad.
More entertaining to us is that Morton is the face of the
Pink Taco chain of Mexican restaurants. While the name is undoubtedly a bit risqué--as evidenced by protests over plans to open a branch in Scottsdale, AZ--we never would have guessed that Lindsay Lohan's boyfriend would be the source of as much controversy as LL herself. The mind boggles.

Ah, summer, it is officially here.
With 21 miles of coastline, and constant celebrity sunbathers, Malibu is one of the most popular sunning locales in SoCal.
Malibu boasts plenty of private beaches with public access ways as well as plenty of popular public beaches.
Parking is a real bitch, but if you can swing it you may be sharing a stretch of beach with Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillipe, Carmen Electra, Brad Pitt or even Danny Devito. Yeah, they say you haven't lived until you see Danny Devito in a speedo.
Just last week, waifs Nicole Richie and Micha Barton split a stretch of SoCal beach, toweless, with gawkers, dogs, and Malibuans, er, Malibuites, um, Malibu-agoans looking on. Can't these girls afford beach towels?
