Frontier Flight Proves Bird Strikes Aren't Just For LaGuardia
We thought since Frontier Airlines loved animals—they’ve got all those critters painted on their tail fins—they would be the last ones to have a bird encounter. However, that’s not the case, as a flight headed to Denver over the weekend had to make an emergency landing in Kansas City after running into a flock of feathered friends on takeoff.

When Kansas City was named one of Smarter Travel's 5 Destinations to Watch in 2009, I--much like you--was a little bit... confused. Certainly I'd agree that there's nothing wrong with Kansas City--I'd gone once before and found it to be perfectly lovely (and the November foliage was spectacular)--but suffice it to say ol' K-C-Mo wouldn't be the first destination to dance into my head if I were fantasizing about my next getaway.
But it just so happened that I had another trip to KC scheduled for New Year's Eve--the crowds and the cold on the gritty NYC streets had gotten the best of me by year's end--so I headed into the great Midwest with an open mind and a pleasant attitude in tow, ready to embrace all the supposedly up-and-coming destination had to offer an East Coaster.

Kansas City International's Newest Monkey Ad
We already have a soft spot for MCI (aka KCI) in Kansas City because the airport's had free WiFi for ages. But now we have another reason to love it: a commercial starring a chimp.
Honestly, this little fella does everything right when it comes to air travel. He books his flight online and checks in from home before heading to the airport. Before heading out the door, he checks his flight status on MCI's website. (He also could've Googled it.)
We usually like taking public transportation to the airport, but our traveling chimp does live in Kansas City--not exactly the world's foremost subway city. But we do like that he's only toting a single, small suitcase. As Peter Greenberg says, "There are two kinds of bags: carry-on and lost."

Looks like the City of Fountains has their little R2 unit. A Jaunted tipster sent in this photo from the Kansas City streets. As an added touch, Dominic donned a "Vader Was Framed" shirt. It is the little things people.

KCI Flies High with WiFi
Like we have to tell you that it's traveling season. How do we deal with the hassle at the airport? By jumping on some WiFi and ignoring our fellow travelers! Kansas City International Airport has offered free net access since June 1, and you can get online anywhere in the airport. The service is provided by the airport authority, so you won't have to worry about the log-ins or pop-ups that some private providers foist on you. But there's a little caveat to our KC airport WiFi praise.
As is sometimes the case when the WiFi's free, finding an outlet can be a problem. That's something the airport is working on, says KCI telecom guru David Evans. There are "plenty of outlets" around but their child safety feature doesn't always play nice with laptop power cables. David's insider tip is to carry a cord with a ground--that means three prongs instead of two--until his crew can get a solution in place.
