Kansas City Travel Guide
To get an idea of what's in store for riders, one has to look no further than the slide's name, Verruckt, which is German for mad, crazy, or insane.
That naming scheme seems to be a theme with waterslides. The "Insano" slide in Brazil is one of the world's tallest at 134.5 feet, but the current king is the 164-foot tall Kilimanjaro in Barra do Piraí, according to USA Today and the Guinness World Records. Will this one in Kansas City conquer them all? Supposedly!
If you’re looking to get a little culture this summer there’s always the option to visit a museum, and if you’re into airline this and that like we are, we’ve got a new one to recommend. You know we’re all about taking a sneak peek into the past lives of passengers, pilots, and flight attendants, so it’s only natural that we’re already enamored with the TWA Museum in Kansas City, Missouri.
For just $5 visitors are welcome to take a step back in history and observe how it used to be up in the skies, and of course feel the jealousy that comes with seeing how air travel used to be.
The museum just moved into their new digs at the site of the airline’s former 1931 headquarters, 10 Richards Road, so now even the building holding the exhibits, artifacts, and treasures contributes to the history. The museum has displays on everything from old uniforms to actual flight decks, and of course everything in between. It’s just enough to keep you entertained as you relive the glory years of flight. Some of the stuff even travelled around the country almost twenty years ago, as TWA was one of the main sponsors of the Smithsonian’s 150th anniversary, and they sent out some their goodies on a road trip across the country.
Your bracket has been busted, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t be tuning in this evening to check out the men’s NCAA championship game in Houston. However, once it’s over, things always become somewhat of a downer. Sure the winning team is excited, but fans like us get a little depressed without the thrill of the buzzer beater, so that’s why we’re suggesting a trip to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.
The hall of fame is just one part of the College Basketball Experience in Kansas City, Missouri, so if strolling down memory lane gets a little boring, you can always hit up some of the place’s interactive displays.
Who doesn't end up watching "A Christmas Story" on TV at least once during the holidays? This year, the Kansas City Repertory Theatre is bringing Ralphie, and his dream of getting a BB-gun for Christmas, to the stage too. "A Christmas Story: The Musical" will run through Dec. 27 at the Spencer Theatre in Kansas City, MO. The musical includes all of the movie's best moments, like a tongue frozen to a lamp post, a bar of soap in the mouth, a mannequin leg lamp, and a Chinese Christmas dinner, plus new music created to compliment each scene.
Tickets for "A Christmas Story: The Musical" can be purchased from the online box office. You can select any date to see what seats are available before purchasing. Most shows are sold out or close to it though so you'll have to act fast. Adult tickets are $60, Senior Tickets are $47 and Student Tickets are $20.
We thought since Frontier Airlines loved animals—they’ve got all those critters painted on their tail fins—they would be the last ones to have a bird encounter. However, that’s not the case, as a flight headed to Denver over the weekend had to make an emergency landing in Kansas City after running into a flock of feathered friends on takeoff.
Everyone enjoys Teddy Grahams, but does anyone ever say, Hey, I'm going to go to the store to buy Teddy Grahams? No, they make late night runs for Peanut M&M's or Oreos--or more booze. Jenna from HotelChatter explains how KC is the same as a they're-pretty-good box of cookies.
When Kansas City was named one of Smarter Travel's 5 Destinations to Watch in 2009, I--much like you--was a little bit... confused. Certainly I'd agree that there's nothing wrong with Kansas City--I'd gone once before and found it to be perfectly lovely (and the November foliage was spectacular)--but suffice it to say ol' K-C-Mo wouldn't be the first destination to dance into my head if I were fantasizing about my next getaway.
But it just so happened that I had another trip to KC scheduled for New Year's Eve--the crowds and the cold on the gritty NYC streets had gotten the best of me by year's end--so I headed into the great Midwest with an open mind and a pleasant attitude in tow, ready to embrace all the supposedly up-and-coming destination had to offer an East Coaster.

We already have a soft spot for MCI (aka KCI) in Kansas City because the airport's had free WiFi for ages. But now we have another reason to love it: a commercial starring a chimp.
Honestly, this little fella does everything right when it comes to air travel. He books his flight online and checks in from home before heading to the airport. Before heading out the door, he checks his flight status on MCI's website. (He also could've Googled it.)
We usually like taking public transportation to the airport, but our traveling chimp does live in Kansas City--not exactly the world's foremost subway city. But we do like that he's only toting a single, small suitcase. As Peter Greenberg says, "There are two kinds of bags: carry-on and lost."
It's not necessary to sing the blues just because you're in Kansas City. Visit one of these connection-friendly spots, and maybe you'll end up playing a duet:
Missie B's -- What's better than drag shows five nights a week? Charity events every Saturdays and hot men dancing on boxes. 805 W. 39th St.
Salsa Grill -- Put on your stilettos and chow down on customized nachos while you watch the game. 6508 Martway St. in Shawnee
Blue Moose Bar and Grill -- Send him or her a beer on Thursdays, because all-day happy hour (11AM to 2AM) means taking a chance is worth it. 4160 W. 71st St.
Looks like the City of Fountains has their little R2 unit. A Jaunted tipster sent in this photo from the Kansas City streets. As an added touch, Dominic donned a "Vader Was Framed" shirt. It is the little things people.
So get back out there and locate more of the 380 R2 units spread across the U.S., snap a photo, send it our way and we will add it to the R2D2 USPS Mailbox Map.

Like we have to tell you that it's traveling season. How do we deal with the hassle at the airport? By jumping on some WiFi and ignoring our fellow travelers! Kansas City International Airport has offered free net access since June 1, and you can get online anywhere in the airport. The service is provided by the airport authority, so you won't have to worry about the log-ins or pop-ups that some private providers foist on you. But there's a little caveat to our KC airport WiFi praise.
As is sometimes the case when the WiFi's free, finding an outlet can be a problem. That's something the airport is working on, says KCI telecom guru David Evans. There are "plenty of outlets" around but their child safety feature doesn't always play nice with laptop power cables. David's insider tip is to carry a cord with a ground--that means three prongs instead of two--until his crew can get a solution in place.
