Spotting Kangaroos in London Sends You To Oz, Not Asylum

June 30, 2009 at 4:27 PM | by amandak | 0 Comments

Look out London - the kangaroos have invaded. In a neat campaign to promote Kangaroo Island in South Australia, the South Oz tourism gang are letting twenty brightly-painted kangaroos loose in London.

Fortunately these roos don't look like the kind that will wreak havoc on the city – they just look pretty, rather than doing much jumping or boxing. But if you're in London and spot some of these animals, take good note of where they are and you could win a trip to Kangaroo Island for four.

Go to their website for entry and if you don't win the big trip you automatically get a ฃ100 Flight Centre voucher. But we'd definitely have our eye on the big prize, because Kangaroo Island is by far one of the most beautiful spots in South Australia – incredible scenery, great food and more than a couple live, hoppin' kangaroos.

Movie Set Travel: December Boys

October 10, 2007 at 3:00 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Harry Potter is all grows up in his latest movie December Boys which opened last month. Daniel Radcliffe plays the eldest of four boy orphans who get sent on holiday to South Australia's Kangaroo Island.

While the boys explore the gorgeous scenery, they continue to struggle with their identity as orphans. (It doesn't help that some of them aren't getting adopted anytime soon.) Meanwhile Radcliffe's character, Maps, meets a girl who teaches him how to smoke, kiss and well, you know.

Now a couple of winemakers are encouraging Potter/Radcliffe fans to come see what he saw. Cliff Richard, an old British rocker from the band The Shadows and Liz Heidenreich are the owners of the Sevenhill Cellars in Clare Valley. Through Tailor Made Travel you can book your own trip to South Australia this November.

The agency has put together a self-drive package that includes a rental car, two nights at the Buxton Manor, four nights in Clare Valley (with a stop at Sevenhill, we presume) and two days on Kangaroo Island. The only thing not included is the love interest, but we know you'll be able to drum something up.
