Hollywood Forever, the cheesily-named cemetery housing some of the nation's most famous dead thespians and cinematic employees, is not some sort of sacred quiet place where people go to mourn the long lost.
Nope. Like most places in Hollywood, this is a place to party. At least it's a place to party in the summer when the cemetery hosts movie screenings. And who better to party with in a cemetery than Freddy Krueger himself?
That's what's going down on August 12 when Robert Englund is attending the premiere for his newest horror-comedy movie, Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer.
Unlike most Hollywood parties, this one is open to all. The open lawn screening begins at 7:30 pm. We're saving our seat near our favorite Golden Girl, Estelle Getty, who was recently buried here.

The world may yet be spared a Spencer Pratt-Heidi Montag Iraq tour attached to John McCain's presidential campaign. Whatever Heidi and McCain daughter Meghan discussed at lunch a few weeks ago, they may not have covered the simple fact that Spencer refuses to fly coach and won't pony up for first-class seats. Let's all impress this on our memories so in 20 years when he runs for president, we can create "Coach Passengers For Truth."
Maybe he's just saving for his gigundo mortgage: The "Hills" couple we love to hate was spotted shopping for a more permanent abode in Malibu this weekend. Something is wrong with a universe when Ed McMahon is facing foreclosure but these TV twits can afford to buy.

Stars... they're just like us! Kelly Rowland is trying to muscle her way into the travel-media field with a TV pilot. The show, tentatively called "Around the World," hasn't been picked up yet, but will supposedly show the best in hotels, restaurants and shopping around the globe.
Rowland seems like a grounded enough girl not to pull a "Taradise," but she needs a specialty like Tara Reid's. (Getting drunk and falling down in exotic locales is not a specialty.) Since she's a singer, maybe she can do a little ditty at the end of each episode?

If he weren't married, they could be Gibspears! Or Melney! We have no way to account for the friendship (mentorship?) between Mel Gibson and Britney Spears, but they were spotted at a cigar bar in Hollywood this week.
As you can see, Britney arrived at the event being driven instead of driving herself--well done! Not that there is a ticket process for Cigar Smoking Under the Influence, but a little prevention goes a long way.
Clearly, whether it's due to Mel's tutelage or not, Britney's summer is looking up: Her appearance on "How I Met Your Mother" was submitted to Emmy voters, and Spears is reportedly at work on a follow-up to last year's "Blackout."

Yesterday we spent the afternoon bumming around Universal Studios in Hollywood. Our first (and pretty much only) order of business was to check-out the brand-new Simpsons Ride.
You may remember that this ride replaced the Back to the Future ride which we were sad to see go. But have no fear, next to the Simpsons gift store--aka the Kwik-E-Mart--Doc Brown still lives on in his Doc Brown's Fried Chicken Stand.
Then again, Doc Brown is positively dwarfed by Krustyland, the pseudo-amusement park in which the Simpsons Ride takes place.

It's kinda hard for us to get excited about the Simpsons Ride opening at Universal Studios on May 17 because to open this ride meant closing down the totally awesome Back to the Future ride.
Still, we should be happy that replacement is something equally iconic. (We just wouldn't go for, say, a Snakes on a Plane experience.)
The LA Times' Daily Travel and Deal blog has some deets on the ride which is housed in the old BTTF ride structure and has the same motion simulator concept.

Now that the WGA picket lines have been going strong almost two weeks and production on current series is stopping, stars beholden to their shows' writers might need to get into another line of work. That's why Eva Longoria is following in the footsteps of Justin Timberlake and spending her hours off the "Desperate Housewives" set to open a Mexican restaurant in L.A. called Beso.
Longoria told People magazine, "I'm a big, big cooker in my family, so this is kind of an extension of my house. I feel like everybody's going to be in my living room." Unlike most vanity projects, though, she's not going it alone; instead, she got Boston chef and "Top Chef" finale guest Todd English to collaborate with her on Beso.
Despite Wednesday's preview party, the restaurant isn't quite ready to open yet (it's missing a liquor license, for one), but when it does open maybe Eva can create a half-priced strikers' special. Tacos for everyone!

You may or may not know that this week Britney Spears released her long-awaited fifth album, "Blackout," to not-all-that-terrible reviews. The album is timed perfectly for anyone looking for a creepy soundtrack for his last-second haunted house, depending on how eerie you find Spears' thin and robotic voice.
In keeping with the holiday, Spears appeared at the Virgin Megastore in Hollywood dressed as a pirate wench. It's interesting that her publicist felt the need to clarify that this was a costume, and not just Spears' normal attire. Who wears a costume to work? Well, besides that creepy guy in the mail room.
Need a last-minute costume? We suggest Sexy Wronged Passenger On Southwest, Sexy Virgin America Mogul or Sexy TSA Worker and Patdown Expert.
