Allegiant Air Sets Up Some New Digs In Michigan And They're Hiring

February 11, 2010 at 10:50 AM | by | Comments (0)

It’s been a few months since we checked out what’s going on with Allegiant Air, and things seem to be going well since they kicked some crying kids off one of their planes. The airline is continuing to bring in the cash, and there are probably a few suits that are pumped over the airline’s increased load factor. The cheap fares and no frills service are clearly getting plenty of butts into the seats.

With success comes expansion and Allegiant is looking to bring some of the low cost love to Grand Rapids, Michigan. They already had several flights coming and going per day, but now they have formally set up a new base there. The newest flight option out of The Wolverine State is Myrtle Beach. Love it or hate it the South Carolina uh, hotspot, will be a lot warmer than things up north when the flights kick off on April 30. We’d probably still prefer one of their Florida options like Tampa or Orlando—but that’s just us.

50 Cent's Guide To Enjoying Grand Rapids, Michigan

January 4, 2010 at 3:13 PM | by | Comments (0)

Grand Rapids, MI has a new, unlikely, fan. 50 Cent is currently in Grand Rapids to film Gun and he has nothing but love for the city. The rapper/writer/producer/businessman says he prefers the small town vibe of Grand Rapids as opposed to working in NYC where everyone wants a piece of him.

"I was comfortable and able to focus on the actual project because of that. New York city is rough because so many people are conscious of everything that I do,” he said. “I’m in a scene and they want me to sign a piece a paper or take a picture in the middle of the scene. It’s like, ‘I can’t!’ And they don’t understand that.”

This Is What A Fall Festival Looks (And Sounds) Like

October 12, 2009 at 2:08 PM | by | Comments (0)

Can't make it out of the city this autumn to experience one of our Top Three Town Festivals For Fall Foodies? Don't worry, we went to one for you this weekend, after trekking from our usual roost in New York City to Northwest Ohio for the Grand Rapids Apple Butter Fest.

The freshly-churned apple butter, piping hot apple dumplings, bean soup and buffalo burgers aside, fall festivals such as this are truly the epicenters of the culture surrounding autumn. We can go crunch the leaves in Central Park whenever, but being surrounded by crafters who do wrought-iron cornstalks and stalls selling candles scented like pumpkin vanilla is a concentrated fall experience. But it's not too late to head to one of these festivals on your own!

Give Us Those Ruby Slippers

September 1, 2005 at 5:18 PM | by | Comments (0)

This week Judy Garland--lovers felt a disturbance in the force when one of the four existing pairs of ruby slippers used in The Wizard of Oz was stolen from the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The shoes, insured for a million dollars, were on loan from a former child actor who collects memorabilia. The only other pair on display to the public are those at the Smithsonian. Here's hoping they're keeping an extra-careful eye on them.
