Bon Jovi Disses The Jersey Shore on Independence Day for The Hamptons

Where: 33A Main St [map], East Hampton, NY, United States, 11937
July 6, 2009 at 9:23 AM | by juliana | 1 Comment

While most celebs were either prancing around on the beaches of Malibu this Fourth of July weekend or hitting the nightclubs in the Hamptons, Jon Bon Jovi was doing something a little more low-key, eating Mexican Food in East Hampton at The Blue Parrot. We're shocked that this "hometown boy" from New Jersey wasn't spending time down at "the shore" but we'll forgive him that because apparently, he decided to give the place a little show.

"He just took a guitar off the wall and started playing," said one lucky eater. The New Jersey rock legend opened with "Who Says You Can't Go Home" before playing "Free Bird." Then, "He tried to get back to his table, but everyone was screaming for him to play one more song," laughs our source. He obliged them with "Dead or Alive."

Man, we wish all celebrities would do this when they dine at restaurants. Except you know, Paris Hilton.

Gossip Girl Travel: Your Eyes Are Doing That Thing Where They Don't Match Your Mouth

September 2, 2008 at 8:00 AM | by egw | 1 Comment

Walk in the footsteps of the "Gossip Girl" season premiere "Summer Kind of Wonderful" with our Gossip Girl Map.

Previously: "Sex, lies and scandal" may never take a vacation, but "Gossip Girl" has been off for three months. Blair and Chuck were together... well, temporarily; Dan and Serena broke up, and Jenny decided to not try to be part of that world any more. Ha! Try to stay away, J!

The dusty streets of the Upper East Side have been swapped for the green lawns of the Hamptons, so who stuck the drama in a Vera Bradley duffel for the road? Blair shocks the swains when she returns from Paris early in order to attend the season-ending White Party. But she didn't come alone--she brought summer fling James with her to make Chuck jealous. OK, so maybe he's more of a Mr. Right Now than a Mr. Right, but even Chuck's entire harem can't make up for the fact that he really, really misses Blair. Like, in a near-tears way.

Hamptons Travel: Christie Brinkley Lives Her Own "Hills" Episode

August 13, 2008 at 8:45 AM | by egw | 0 Comments

OMG! Can you believe what happened in the Hamptons this weekend? Christie Brinkley was, like, at a benefit for the Ross School starring the Jonas Brothers--if you're too old to know, they're a hot Disney Channel-affiliated band of bros with a squeaky-clean image--and her ex Peter Cook showed up! With another girl! (OK, it was their daughter Sailor, but still!)

Brinkley did what our reality-television heroines would do--she fled. Because they, like, totally can't be in the same room together after she attacked him in court for pursuing young girls and spending thousands of dollars on porn, they're going to have to stake out spots like LC and Heidi. Leave the Hamptons for an ex-lover? Impossible.

The circle will only be complete if Brinkley goes on a date with one of the "JoBro." Considering they're all under 20, that's not a likely prospect.

Vacation Travel: The Hamptons, Mariah Carey Style

August 8, 2008 at 8:50 AM | by egw | 0 Comments

No summer share for Mariah Carey! When the songstress decided to take an impromptu vacation in the Hamptons with husband Nick Cannon, she didn't call one of her famous friends to clear off the couch -- she dropped $125,000 on a one-week rental in East Hampton.

And she's planning to trash the place, or at least give it a go, with a belated post-wedding party thrown by Def Jam. Why buy when you can rent? No need to make real estate commitments more solid than her commitment to Cannon, who defied all forecasts by staying married to Carey for at least 3 months.

The Hamptons pad will be a convenient landing pad when Mariah performs at Fashion Rocks in Radio City Music Hall on September 5th.

Hamptons Travel: Lindsay and Sam, One Night Only

July 21, 2008 at 9:30 AM | by egw | 0 Comments

Lindsay Lohan partied with her potential squeeze Samantha Ronson this weekend at the East Hampton club Lily Pond. It's a rare East Coast appearance for Lohan as she gives her mother's reality show "Living Lohan" a wide berth and sticks to her new movie "Labor Pains," being shot outside of LA.

So are The Hamptons over? A few weeks ago The New York Times described the gradual drift of the Hamptons crowd toward Montauk as the exclusive addresses of Martha Stewart and P. Diddy draw more and more of the "wrong crowd."

Not that there's been a serious dip in Jitney ridership yet, but at least the fundraising crowd is cutting back on their Hamptons trips, leaving your friendly neighborhood nonprofit to feel the pinch. So before you go, leave some money in Manhattan!

Hamptons Restaurants: Matto

Where: 104 N. Main St. [map], East Hampton, NY, United States, 11937

Long Island Travel Guide Map

If you're headed to the East End for an upcoming weekend, forgo the cheesy nightclubs and instead have dinner at Matto, the perfect stop after a day at The Beach.

Matto's dining room features white-fabric draped ceilings, soft candlelight, and a decidedly chic-but-beachy feel. The menu includes "Angry Shrimp" that are perfectly spiced with roasted garlic and scallions, as well as thin crust pizzas, fresh housemade pastas, and traditional meats and fish. Drink wine by the glass or the bottle and stare at the local--and visiting--beautiful people. Something about being at Matto refreshingly makes you feel like one too.

Beach House Spectacular: Just Beachy, Thanks

June 9, 2006 at 10:35 AM | by AVB | 0 Comments

Money can buy you a lot of things, but it can't buy your love. Or a parking space, apparently. Yup, you've missed your chance to get one of the 2,600 nonresident parking permits for the many quality beaches in the Village of East Hampton--and their beaches are considered the best in the Hamptons.

Sorry, machers and power brokers, wheelers and dealers, and hot shots of all stripes; you'll have to walk, bike, or, horror of horrors, be dropped off. Main Beach allows day permits during the week, but those are the only scraps you'll be tossed. You're SOL otherwise, unless you can prove residence (like Steven Spielberg and Calvin Klein) in the town.

The permits are $250 a pop, and are a policy that the village has been enforcing since 2003. They claim that it's to maintain the pristine natural beauty of the area, and that makes sense to us. Also, it must be pretty entertaining to jerk rich people around--people who pay $75,000 for a summer rental, and then can't get a parking spot. How soon until a back market trade in these stickers crops up on craigslist?
