If you are Dortmund Germany, how do you tell the world that you are kind of a big deal when it comes to the FIFA World Cup 2006? Inflate a giant ball that is viewable via Google Earth, fo course.

Believe it or not, Dortmund is the sixth largest city in Germany--aka the largest German city no one has ever heard of. The city was once a steel-making and coal producing machine, however, the town's production prowess made it a big time target for allied bombing during World War II, which destroyed most of the city.

These days, Dortmund is still in the process of trying to find its way back, and the city is hoping hosting one of the World Cup semi-final games will help.

Did you know they were using a special golden ball in this years World Cup championship game? Is it us, or is this sport getting closer and closer to real world Quidditch every year. We can't wait for the day we can spy a giant golden soccer ball surrounded by folks with broomsticks via Google Earth.
