Get Your Fill of 'Chokes at Cali's Annual Artichoke Festival

If you love putting artichokes in everything from your dip to your pizza, you have to visit the "Artichoke Capital of the World," Castroville, in California's Central Coast. The best time to visit the town, which is right near the Pacific, is during its annual Artichoke Festival, set for May 21 and 22.

At the fest, you can eat artichokes fried, sautéed, grilled, marinated, pickled, fresh and creamed in soup. And if you're at a loss on how to make the prickly veggie, there also will be instructional cooking demonstrations.
