How You Can Actually DJ at Coachella This Year
We’ve already told you how to get tickets to Coachella, but what if you want to perform at this year’s fest?
If you want to DJ at Coachella this year, all you have to do is get together a dozen friends who are willing to run on a hamster wheel in the scorching heat for 30 minutes. The eco-educational nonprofit organization Global Inheritance, that combines art, fun, and play to promote environmental issues, is sponsoring the Sweat Shop, an initiative that gives DJs a chance to spin while their friends ride bikes, turn hand cranks, and run on hamster wheels to power their equipment.
If you think you (and your friends) have what it takes to spin at Coachella, email sweatshopMIXER@globalinheritance.org with your website for consideration. If you’re chosen, you’ll need to send them a $50 deposit that you will get back if your friends can manage to keep your turntables spinning for 30 minutes.

California, California, There You Go
Are you one of the casualties of the hurtin' economy? We're here to help with Laid-Off Travel, a new series on where to go when you don't have somewhere to go from 9 to 5.
All is not valuable in the Golden State: Cash-strapped California may shed 20,000 jobs if the budget cannot balance, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced yesterday. Of course, we would never advocate taking a vacation with your supervisor watching, but if you've already requested the time off -- or you know your fate already -- prove your fiscal responsibility with a frugal getaway:
Tan: Get far away from the looming Capitol Building in Sacramento and the way it mocks you with its opulence. We're thinking San Juan, Puerto Rico -- a quick LastMinute.com search found a $551 per-person flight and hotel package from Sacramento. It leaves Feb. 28, so you have plenty of time to pack.
Tone: It's still nowhere near cheap, but Tucson uberspa Canyon Ranch will give you a credit for your flight (up to $350) if you stay 4 nights, eating their perfectly healthy food and hiking the hills.
Tense: While 82 percent of those affected by layoffs so far this cycle nationwide are men, state governments by and large are disproportionately female. But even male jobhunters can appreciate a decent massage at San Francisco's Nob Hill Spa (1075 California St. at the Huntington Hotel) which has a spate of details, from "Romance and Relaxation" packages (which include a couples' 50-minute massage on check-in) to a 25 percent discount on all treatments taken Monday through Thursday from 8:30 to noon. Hey, you can't do that at your desk!
