Waterfalls, Redwoods and More at California's Pfeiffer Burns State Park
In Big Sur, you practically trip over hiking trails that bring you to gorgeous coastline views. But one place to definitely put on your must-hike list is Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park.
Pfeiffer is probably the most well known among the Big Sur parks, since it follows the Big Sur River and is filled with trees—including redwoods, conifers, oaks, sycamores, cottonwoods, maples, alders and willows—and wildlife—including black-tail deer, raccoons, skunks and various birds.

Horseback Riding on a Beach Isn't Just for Romance Novels; It's for Big Sur, Too
Most people conquer Big Sur by foot, hiking through the various forests, cliffs and random winding, steep paths. But if hiking isn't your thing, or if you want to give your blistered feet a break, see the gorgeous landscape by horse.
Molera Horseback Tours runs horse rides in Andrew Molera State Park and is conveniently located inside the park. You get to set out for a ride through old redwoods, streams—hold on tight when your horse jumps into the water—and best of all, the beach.

Wish You Were Here: The Cliffs of Big Sur, California
One look at this stunning scene and you might think that we're in Ireland, Australia or some other equally far-off destination. But we're actually in California—Big Sur, to be exact.
It's rare to find a pristine area that looks untouched by pollution or any of the other usual land-wreckers. To get to this unspoiled spot, we road-tripped it up from San Diego. And although Big Sur does have its fair share of nature-loving tourists hiking, driving and otherwise exploring the forests and beaches, it remains a gem on the West Coast.

There's Fall Foliage To Be Found On The West Coast Too
Think that all the east coasters and Parisiennes get to have all the leaf-peeping fun? Think again, because even the leaves in California have to change, and there's no better excuse for a daytrip than catching the color along the dramatic Big Sur Highway, also known as Highway 1.
As California's answer to Italy's Amalfi Coast, Big Sur is like a true scenic road trip, complete with steep rocky cliffs, impressive span bridges, blue water, and lots of greenery. Drives like this warrant the extra daily amount you'd spend on renting a convertible versus another Ford Focus.
