No trip to Long Beach Island on the Jersey Shore would be complete without a trip to "Old Barney", the lighthouse at the northern tip of the island.

The lighthouse was built in 1857 after an initial structure was deemed inadequate and ended up sleepin' wit da fishes (OK, it fell into the ocean.) Today it's the second tallest lighthouse in the U.S. but its light doesn't actually function anymore; that stopped in 1944. However, you can climb the tower if you're into that sort of thing. Or you can go crabbing off the jetty rocks surrounding it. Or you can just take a picture of it from afar and get back to your regularly scheduled tanning session.
