Frank Lloyd Wright Travel: Stay Overnight at Duncan House

Frank Lloyd Wright may have inspired a Simon and Garfunkel song and the main character in Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead, but he truly lives on in his buidlings, many of which are open for tours. The Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust maintains the infamous architect's buildings and guides tourists through his works from Japan to Pennsylvania. But when it comes to an authentic experience, nothing beats sleeping under a roof designed by one of the twentieth century's greatest designers.
Seven of Wright's homes are available for overnight stays--the newest addition to this list is the Duncan House in Acme, PA, which opened its doors to travelers in October. The house, designed in Wright's signature Usonian style, sits within Polymath Park, where you'll also find Fallingwater and the Balter House.
Duncan House was originally located in Lisle, IL, but was deconstructed, moved and rebuilt within the park. Rates to book the entire house start at $385, and there's a two-night minimum stay. With the holiday season approaching, guests also have the option of reserving either the Duncan or Balter house for Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year's Eve, with special holiday rates, of course.
If $770 for a two-night stay is out of reach, visitors can still take a two-hour tour of the Duncan and Balter houses, as well as the Blum House Visitor Center for $22. Nearby Wright structures Fallingwater (Mill Run, PA) and Kentuck Knob (Chalk Hill,PA) also provide tours. But get to Fallingwater soon: The last tour of 2007 is Thanksgiving Friday.
